Job Responsibilities and Duties:
This position is a 12-month administrative faculty position, reporting directly to the Dean of Health Sciences and Pharmacy. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in assessment and knowledge and understanding of health sciences and pharmacy accreditation requirements.
The Assistant/Associate Dean of Assessment and Accreditation (ADAA), is responsible for leading the strategic vision of the assessment and accreditation efforts across all academic and operational areas primarily within the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program and secondarily within all other Health Sciences programs in Fort Wayne (including the Master of Pharmacogenomics [PGx], Master of Nutrition and Nutrigenomics [NGx], Master of Athletic Training [MAT], Bachelor of Nursing [BSN], and Doctor of Physical Therapy [DPT]).
The Assistant/Associate Dean of Assessment and Accreditation (ADAA), is responsible for leading the strategic vision of the assessment and accreditation efforts across all academic and operational areas primarily within the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program and secondarily within all other Health Sciences programs in Fort Wayne (including the Master of Pharmacogenomics [PGx], Master of Nutrition and Nutrigenomics [NGx], Master of Athletic Training [MAT], Bachelor of Nursing [BSN], and Doctor of Physical Therapy [DPT]).
Essential Job Functions:
Responsibilities include, but not limited to the following:
Administration (50-60%)
- In conjunction with and support of the Director of Assessment, continually develop and promote a dynamic culture of assessment within the Health Sciences and Pharmacy academic unit.
- Empower Health Sciences and Pharmacy colleagues to incorporate assessment principles and practices into their work.
- In conjunction with and support of the Director of Assessment, lead efforts to continuously improve both educational outcomes and programmatic structures and processes for Health Sciences and Pharmacy programs.
- Lead Health Sciences and Pharmacy’s efforts to continuously improve both educational outcomes and programmatic structures and processes.
- Collaborate with faculty and administrators to advance assessment practices across the University.
- Lead the PharmD Program in its processes to prepare for comprehensive and focused evaluations by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
- Work with all stakeholders to ensure the PharmD Program meets (or exceeds) the expectations and standards set forth by ACPE in order to maintain accreditation.
- Work with program directors whose programs are externally accredited by specialty accreditation bodies (ASCEND, CAPTE, CCNE, and CAATE), including the NGx, DPT, BSN, to ensure their respective programs meet (or exceed) the expectations and standards set forth by the accrediting body.
- Collaborate with institutional offices to achieve institution-wide goals in assessment and accreditation efforts and work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the Health Sciences and Pharmacy programs meet (or exceed) the expectations and standards set forth by the Higher Learning Commission.
- Serve as Chair of the PharmD Program’s Assessment Committee.
- In collaboration with members of the PharmD Program’s Assessment Committee, lead the development, promotion and implementation of the Pharmacy Program’s assessment plan to evaluate achievement of the mission, vision, strategic goals, and programmatic outcomes for the PharmD Program.
- In collaboration with the members of the Fort Wayne Office of Academic Affairs (FWOAA) and the Director of Assessment, assess academic initiatives that support the strategic direction of Health Sciences and Pharmacy programs.
- Lead and support scholarship endeavors in the area of assessment for the PharmD Program and work to become a nationally recognized scholar in this area.
- Actively contribute to the academic unit’s success as a member of the Health Sciences and Pharmacy Executive Committee and to the PharmD Program’s success as a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team.
- Supervise the Director of Assessment and other staff as assigned.
Teaching (15-25%) – equivalent of about 6 load hours/year
- Provide quality instruction in didactic courses both inside and outside the classroom.
- Collaborate with other members of the faculty to develop the curriculum, and teaching and evaluation methods needed for effective delivery of that curriculum. This includes creating, developing, and evaluating innovative teaching methods which prepare students for modern pharmacy practice.
- As assigned, serve as course coordinator.
- As appropriate, develop and teach elective courses.
- Be an exemplary professional role model for Health Sciences and Pharmacy students and faculty colleagues.
- Continuously strive to incorporate and introduce timely topics and cutting-edge concepts in relevant areas into instructional activities.
- In collaboration with the Department Chair evaluate teaching responsibilities and complete assigned roles.
Scholarship (10%)
- Lead and participate in the scholarship of discovery, application, integration, and teaching/learning in assessment and accreditation.
- Disseminate the results of scholarly endeavors in appropriate forums, including publications, presentations, and teaching.
- As appropriate, mentor and collaborate with other scholars both inside and outside the institution.
Service (15%)
- Serve as a faculty mentor to Health Sciences and Pharmacy students.
- Participate actively on academic and/or University committees as assigned.
- If applicable, serve as a faculty advisor to student organizations.
- As appropriate, serve as mentor to new faculty and staff.
- Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations and professional development activities.
- Participate in community service activities as appropriate.
Secondary Job Functions
- Other responsibilities, including teaching, service and scholarship as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Is at the academic rank of associate or full professor, with at least six years of academic experience.
- An advanced degree in a pharmacy- or health care-related field; or in education with an assessment background.
- Prior assessment experience in higher education or pharmacy academia.
- Thorough knowledge of assessment theory and practice.
- Familiarity with current assessment tools and resources.
- Demonstrated ability to assess curricular effectiveness and student learning, and suggest improvements based on the results.
- Knowledge of and experience with external accreditation processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Ability to provide effective feedback and coaching.
- Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and manage time.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Basic computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, e-mail, and internet use.
- Commitment to continuous self-improvement and professional development.
- Understanding of current pharmacy education and practice is preferred.
- Record of scholarly activity is preferred.
