Position Title: After-School Counselor

Job Type: Part-Time (22.5 hours weekly), Hourly

This position works in our After-School Enrichment Program (ASEP) located at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center in East Knoxville. This program serves middle school-aged youth. We are seeking high-quality professional role-models with sound character and a diverse skillset to provide support and attention to our students’ needs, social and emotional development, and academic success. We are looking for part-time staff who are truly passionate about impacting the lives of young people in a supportive and engaging environment.


The Duties and Responsibilities of this position are to:

  • Use the knowledge of YWCA programs and policies to promote Association and Mission Statement in the community.
  • Interact with other program personnel, volunteers, and staff to meet the needs of all YWCA members and participants. Participate in agency activities as necessary.
  • Comply with YWCA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure safety at all times for children, staff, and facility.
  • Actively participate in program activities with children.
  • Communicate with parents as needed.
  • Prepare for field trips, areas for games, crafts, and snacks.
  • Maintain good housekeeping daily.
  • Enforce disciplinary polices and procedures to students.
  • Assist Director as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Training Required to Meet Position Responsibilities:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must have experience working with children and youth. Must be available to work the weekly schedule.
  • Must have experience with youth or participation in youth-related clubs, classes or programs and have effective human relations skills.
  • Must be able to maintain a flexible schedule.
  • Requires possession of organizational, numerical, communicational, computer, interpersonal, leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Must have a “people first” attitude and possess the ability to think creatively, work under pressure and within time constraints, and work efficiently as part of a team.

Pay Information:

  • $15.00 hourly

Schedule:

  • 22.5 hours weekly
  • Monday-Friday 2:00-6:00pm
  • August 1, 2022-May 31, 2023
