Adult Education Teacher Job at Virginia Haynesville Correctional Ctr
The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for providing quality instruction that meets the needs of the student in the areas of basic adult education and GED standards. Additionally, to meet the standards defined under the Commonwealth’s statutes and program certification requirements.
This position provides individual and group instruction to male supervisees at Haynesville Correctional Complex (Unit 17). Successful candidate will maintain classroom, equipment and inventories; ensure compliance with all DOC regulations; maintain accurate records and submit timely reports; and manage and supervise aides and students in a classroom setting.
This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12 month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university.
Demonstrated ability to teach and engage students (including one-on-one instruction). Demonstrated ability to supervise students and aides in a classroom setting. Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records; the ability to facilitate other instructors.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer Current Teaching License with an endorsement in Adult Education, Special Education or academic subject(s). Prefer experience teaching adults and or youth. Prefer experience in a correctional or alternative education setting. Prefer knowledge and experience of policy and procedures governing adult education. Prefer a Master’s degree preferably a major or minor in a relevant educational field.
