Overview: University Settlement is one of New York City's most dynamic social justice institutions, with an impressive legacy as the first settlement house in the nation. University Settlement has been providing a variety of effective and strengths-based community based programs for children grades K- 8th. The Activity Specialist will be responsible facilitating workshops while ensuring the safety and engagement of children. The program will provide academic support; artistic, athletic, cultural, and athletic enrichment; therapeutic services; and opportunities for family involvement.

Responsibilities:

• Activity Specialist will work with groups of 15-20 students
• Facilitating sessions in the areas of dance, music, leadership, sports, ESL, visual arts, and computer etc.
• Specialists should be able to integrate young peoples life experiences while integrating thematic curriculum
• Create an environment of active and genuine learning by employing a range of teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students
• Projects should incorporate career awareness activities including field trips and guest speakers as well as community outreach and involvement
• Write, revise and implement lesson plans using DYCD framework for approval by director
• Monitor and report on students progress throughout the term of the activity

Qualifications:

• Previous experience teaching/facilitating workshops in one of the subject areas
• High School Diploma or HSE required
• Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team
• Attend planning, supervisor, and evaluation sessions
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to commit for the entire school year
• Must be over 18 years old
• Highly energetic, dynamic, and positive

Schedule: Mon, Wed, Fri- 2-5PM and Tues- Thurs. 3PM-6PM Note: Flexibility with the work schedule. Position is for the school year- September to June
