This person provides for an ongoing program of activities to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that will include occasional weekends, evening and holidays. Tasks also will involve record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies and equipment and maintenance of storage areas.

Stands and walks throughout the working day. Reaches, stoops, bends, lifts, carries, and manipulates various Activity supplies and equipment. Ability to work with chemicals and cleaning agents. Must be free from infection or diseases. Must be able to lift, carry or 25-50 pounds. Must be able to push residents in wheelchairs to and from activity areas.

Minimum educational requirements include a high school diploma or its equivalent and MEPAP certification.
This person may also be either a qualified therapeutic recreation specialist or an Activities Professional Certified by a recognized accrediting body.
Preference will be given to person with 3+ years’ experience running a resident activity program in a long term setting.

Plan and provide an Activity programming that meets the needs of the resident population and includes, but is not limited to:
Group and social activities; o Indoor and outdoor activities;
Activity outings into the community;
Spiritual programs to meet the needs of population;
Opportunity for resident involvement in planning and implementation of the activities program;
Creative activities such as art, crafts, music, drama and educational programs.
Exercise activities; One to one / sensory stimulation programing; Promotion of facility and community interaction; Evening, weekend and holiday programing; Promotion of facility / community interaction.
Prepare a monthly calendar of activities written in large print and posted in a prominent location that is visible to residents and visitors. Assure individual calendars are distributed to each resident.
Assure facility is decorated appropriately for seasonal and holiday events.
Assure any plants and facility pets are cared for appropriately.
Encourage residents to personalize their rooms and assist with hanging calendars, clocks, cards or other mementos in their room in a safe manner.
Coordinate the activities program with other services in the facility.
Recruit, train and supervise volunteers when appropriate.
Complete initial assessment of all residents upon admission and annual thereafter.
Assess resident needs and develop resident activities goals for the written plan of care. Review goals as update as required.
Complete Activity section of MDS as required by facility policy as well as state and federal guidelines.
Complete any other assessments and/or documentation as assigned by Administrator.
Participate/Supervise scheduled resident smoking sessions as assigned.
Encourage resident’s participation in activities and assist to activity as needed.
Participate with the Administrator in developing a budget.
Foster family and community support of the activity program (through newsletters, networking activities which bring family members or members of the community to the facility).
Attend facility care plan meetings.
Serve as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee.
Attend Department Head Meetings or other meetings assigned by Administrator.
Be knowledgeable of Federal, State, and facility’s rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Attend in-service educational programs.
Follow defined safety codes while performing all duties assigned by the Administrator.
