Finance Director

Position Summary:
The Finance Director is responsible for the oversight and management of the finance department of Missions Inc., including its personnel and consultants. Working with the Executive Director, the Finance Director provides leadership for financial strategies, including strategic planning, partnership with our investment advisor to direct our investment portfolio, and representing accounting/finance at the Finance Committee and Board of Director meetings.
This position is a tactical & strategic role, a senior management team member who works directly with program leadership and oversees accounts receivable and accounts payable clerks.
Position Responsibilities:
Finance
- Prepares and posts all monthly General Ledger transactions, including standard recurring transactions
- Prepares monthly financial statements, including analysis of significant budget variances and significant changes in assets or liabilities
- Prepares monthly and annual reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts as required.
- Reconciles all bank statements monthly
- Prepares regular billings for the state, county, and city contracts
- Preparation of all required audit work papers and schedules for annual audit and schedules required for completion of federal and state annual tax filings
- Oversees electronic medical billing through the EHR system for the Group Residential Housing (GRH) programs and Judy Retterath Withdrawal Management Center (JRWMC). Reconcile the EHR accounts receivable to the accounting system (Abila MIP) for all GRH programs and JRWMC monthly. Post monthly journal entries from the EHR system to the accounting system (Abila MIP). Coordinates follow-up with program directors/managers/assigned staff on any outstanding amounts.
- Works with the Executive Assistant to ensure payroll is processed accurately and charged to the appropriate departments.
- Works with Associate Director and CEO to prepare an annual operating budget and to accurately reflect the approved budget in monthly financial reports.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP and ensuring that all of Missions Inc. Programs financial assets are safeguarded from misuse or theft by staff or clients.
- Works with CEO/Investment Advisor to direct Missions Inc.’s investment portfolio.
- Represents accounting/finance departments in Finance Committee and Board of Directors meetings.
- Member of the Organizational Leadership Team.
Supervision
Supervises the day-to-day activities of the Accounts Receivables Clerk and Accounting Specialist, ensuring that all transactions are recorded accurately and timely.
Position Qualifications:
Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a similar area of expertise
- Minimum three years of experience overseeing accounting functions of a non-profit social service organization.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to communicate accounting information to non-accountants.
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe proficient.
- Knowledge of EHR and electronic billing (837/835 files).
- Abila MIP or similar accounting software proficient.
- Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Mature leadership skills, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-orientated.
- Skilled at working with deadlines and handling confidential and time-sensitive material.

- Excellent people skills with the ability to foster positive relationships with stakeholders.
- Experience with government grants, contracts, and per diem payments typical of residential programs is preferred.

- Vehicle, valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range: $85,000 – $94,000, depending on qualifications & experience
