The Financial Analysis and Accounting (FA&A) division of Human Services Public Health is seeking an Accountant to be responsible for performing financial tasks regarding the Cost Effective Health Insurance (CEHI) program. This position will determine program eligibility, recover money from the Department of Human Services (DHS), analyze and reconcile funds recoveries report, train CEHI and Economic Support staff, audit the unclaimed check report, verifying county compliance with state CEHI regulations and assuring accounting accuracy, and updating procedures according to state rules and regulations.
Location and hours:
This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Work hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Based on business needs of this position, hires must live in or relocate to Minnesota.

In this position, you will:
- Provide basic work direction and training to financial case aides engaged in accounting activities.
- Plan and coordinate staff coverage for CEHI unit for payments, schedule tasks and assist with accounting procedures/policies, review the work of staff engaged in CEHI financial activities, and assist residents understand the financial eligibility requirements of the program.
- Assist senior accountant in the examination and analysis of routine accounting methods, verify county compliance with state CEHI accounting policies, and recovery of funds from DHS for the CEHI program.
- Audit unclaimed check report for check re-issuance process.
- Prepare, analyze, or reconcile routine financial transactions and information according to standardized methods and procedures.
- Perform routine work in verifying county/vendor compliance with requirement.
- Prepare documentation of financial reports, tasks, and ad hoc reports for internal and external requests.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Four years or more of accounting activities experience.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration with an emphasis in accounting or other specialty area related to the position.
- Experience:
- Working with Power Business Intelligence reports.
- Working with database management including financial information and record keeping.
- Using Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel, and specialized government related applications.
- Customer service skills and the ability to establish and maintain rapport with the public and staff.
