Position Description
CNC Machinist with specific vertical 3, 4, and or 5 axis expertise and experience. This is a skilled machinist position and not an operator position. Must be able to fully setup, workholding, tooling, and program prove out. If you are currently working as a setup person in a production environment or working in tool room or mold making type of environment, this may be a good opportunity for you.

The environment at DMT is fast paced and interesting due to low volume and a large variety of highly engineered components. Each machinist is expected to think critically and use judgement to continuously improve and provide the highest value to our customers. Due to this environment, we are looking for a motivated and flexible employee that enjoys working on multiple types of machines and as needed outside their department. Ability to accommodate overtime as needed is important to provide our customers with a high level of service.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Setup and operation of CNC vertical machining centers.
o Tooling selection and setup
o Calculation of proper speeds, feeds etc.
o Working Knowledge of G & M code programming (programs completed offline but general edits etc. at the machine as needed)
- Compliance to personal protective equipment requirements including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed shoes
- Ability to utilize basic gauging to validate component specifications including pin gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, thread gauges, etc.
- Basic print interpretation including basic dimension and print call outs along with GD&T
- Ability to accurately complete production cards and standard manufacturing-based documentation
- Ability to appropriately dispose of chemicals and any hazardous wastes
- Ability to use computer-based print system to access specific prints
Skills and Knowledge Required
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Requires the ability to understand general manufacturing, mathematics, blueprint reading, geometric tolerancing, statistical process control and mechanical comprehension of machining
- Ability to use basic hand tools, torque equipment and required inspection equipment
- Effective Verbal and written communication skills with positive attitude
- Effective planning, organizational abilities, exhibits initiative and accountability maximizes use of time management
- Detail oriented as to the analysis data, ability to use judgment and independent thinking to assure safe, accurate completion of assignments while meeting quality standards
- Demonstrated knowledge in the use of CNC machine controls
- Candidate owns basic machinist tools / box
- Ideal candidate has large horizontal bar machining experience with weldments / castings. Deep hole drilling a plus.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
- In a standard workday this person will be required to stand 65%, walk 20%, lift 10%, bend, squat, and stoop or twist 5%.
- While tools are provided to aid in lifting this individual will be required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Visual requirements include blueprint reading abilities, eye-hand coordination, fine print, gauging, and computer spreadsheet applications.
- Awareness of your surroundings and the safety of other machinists, builders, and other employees.
