This role supports interpreting and implementing labor agreements, general plant rules, employee/management coaching, and team collaboration. This is a working Labor Relations Representative role that will include streamlining, maintaining, and sustaining consistent HR practices to meet internal organizational procedures and local, state, and federal legal compliances. This position will report to the Director, Human Resources, and has formal matrixed reporting to the VP, Human Resources. The ideal candidate should have a broad-based, hands-on, Human Resource Generalist/Labor Relations background.

Essential Functions*:

  • Reviews, interprets, and makes recommendations to establish and improve company labor relations policies and programs, and amend/negotiate terms of contracts as required.
  • Establishes and maintains professional and productive relationships with the union leadership.
  • Participates with Division leadership groups to plan and implement programs to meet human resources/labor relations requirements supporting short and long-term business needs.
  • Administers labor relations programs by representing the company at contract negotiations, grievances, disciplinary hearings, and arbitrations.
  • Manages employee investigations as requested.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on labor agreements, plant rules, and hourly employment-related policies and programs.
  • Advises managers on handling specific situations (e.g., discipline, work practice changes) and their implications in terms of hourly employee relations, performance management, labor agreements, company policy, progressive discipline, general plant rules, and employment law.
  • Workers Compensation Case Management such as tracking recordability, notifying department on/off work status, set-up new claims with Third Party Administrator, set-up surveillance requests, administering pro se settlement meetings, and conducting compensability interviews.
  • Tracks hourly attendance.
  • Administers Unemployment Compensation Claims.
  • Participates in cross-function teams and other job tasks as assigned.

Position Requirements*:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree** in Human Resources, Labor/Industrial Relations, Business Management, Organizational Development, or related discipline preferred; or equivalent related experience required.
  • Minimum two years of recent related hands-on labor relations experience, which includes disciplinary actions, investigations, conducting discharge hearings and grievances, arbitrations, and union contract negotiations required.
  • Relevant experience within an industrial and manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, Family Medical Leave Act, short and long-term disability, HIPPA regulations, workers’ compensation, and federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of labor laws and regulations, court, and arbitration decisions, and national, local, and competition settlement trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to mediate and use conflict resolution techniques.
  • Must possess excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, leadership, organizational, presentation, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong customer focus with a passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage high-volume workload, and willingness to be collaborative and support team efforts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; PeopleSoft and Kronos preferred.
  • Some travel is required.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $79,000.00 per year
