The Web Specialist is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, developing, editing and enhancing all aspects of the layout and content within the College’s public-facing website css.edu. The Web Specialist collaborates with the Director of Web Development and Strategy and the campus community to audit and improve the College’s external, public-facing web presence.

Key Results/Responsibilities
  • Maintain the current iteration of the College’s web presence (css.edu) through an inclusive lens to align with College priorities and Benedictine values; adhere to web content, accessibility and design standards/guidelines to ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance; monitor and improves the College website.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Web Development and Strategy, Information Technologies (IT), other College departments and external vendors on content, site and data development, web design and testing
  • Write, proofread, edit and create SEO-friendly content for the web; adhere to the College’s editorial guidelines to ensure consistency in voice and brand; assist in telling the stories of St. Scholastica students, faculty and staff
  • Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications team and the greater College community to meet the goals of the College
  • Utilize the College’s web marketing tools (Siteimprove, Synup, Trumba, etc) and Google web products (Analytics, Search Console, Custom Search, My Business, etc.) to enhance and improve the College’s public-facing digital presence
  • Curate, tag, catalog and maintain the digital assets of the marketing department; assist with and monitor the College’s multimedia release form and digital asset management platforms; coordinate with the College’s archive team to ensure the preservation of digital assets


Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in digital marketing, communications, or related field; and four (4) years of professional experience in website operations; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of web operations, including design, development, debugging, publishing, accessibility and analytics
  • Principles and practices of scripting, programming and graphic design
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications related to the work
  • Writing, proofreading and editing Search Engine Optimized (SEO) friendly content for websites
  • Developing effective cross-cultural informational and educational materials
  • Preparing and editing effective written informational and marketing materials
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships


Skill in:
  • Commitment to inclusive excellence as an expression of the Benedictine values of The College of St. Scholastica
  • Maintaining large websites with a content management system (CMS)
  • Front-end HTML, CSS, ADA-compliant websites and a working understanding of scripting languages
  • Use of systems troubleshooting tools, techniques and problem-solving methods
  • Ability to write efficiently, cleanly, format, edit and review content and photos to meet the College’s guides and standards
  • Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands
  • Understanding client objectives and requirements and developing solutions
  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities
  • Following and effectively communicating technically complex instructions
  • Supervise, train and mentor individuals in policies and procedures related to the work
  • Preparing clear and concise documentation, user instructions, reports, correspondence and other written materials
  • Exhibiting strong cross-cultural oral and written communication skills
  • Establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with coworkers and students
