Position: (1) - Victim Advocate (FT- Regular- Family Services Department)
This is a grant funded position.
Summary: The primary function of a Victim Advocate is to provide direct support services to victims of crime, pursuant to funding provided by the VOCA grant. This position will assist victims and survivors with identifying their individual needs that can range from shelter, long term housing, food, clothing, safety planning, legal advocacy, and transportation. The Victim Advocate will be working with surrounding support service agencies and keep up to date with services that are being offered to the community. The Victim Advocate will be responsible for maintaining confidential data and client information. Work will be done primarily at our Manistee office.
EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS : Minimum Necessary Qualifications -
A qualified candidate offers:
· A Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or human services field; and
· A minimum of two (2) or more years’ experience in advocacy work or equivalent in similar type work; and
· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with the ability to be insured under the company’s insurance policy; and
· Automobile travel required. If company car is not available, employee may be required to use their own vehicle so proof of valid automobile insurance is required; and
· Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background screening; and
- Superior performance in the selection process as determined at the sole discretion of the LRBOI Hiring Manager, including but not limited to all of the following: any pre-employment interviews, skills testing, credentialing, drug screening, background investigations, reference checks and previous work history, passing a pre-employment drug test and background investigation, possession of a Driver’s License throughout employment and being insurable under the Tribe’s insurance policy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide support services to victims of crime and their families.
2. Knowledgeable of the Crime Victim Compensation benefits. Provide victims with information and assist them with filing if appropriate.
3. Provide advocacy crisis intervention and emotional support for survivors and victims of crime at the individual, judicial, and support service agency level.
4. Assist victims of crime when requested by law enforcement at crime scenes, hospitals, or other safe locations; provides support, referrals, and information related to crime victims’ rights and victim compensation information and applications.
5. Complete client intake forms; document services and referrals provided; conduct thorough case management on all cases in include follow-up contacts.
6. Maintain monthly contact/program reports to the program coordinator and director and participate in scheduled case reviews and staff meetings.
7. May need to do home visits, meet with victims at community shelters, or transport victims to court or support services agencies, or medical appointments.
8. Work closely and interact with detectives, deputies, patrol officers, supervisors, service providers, and other advocates, governmental agencies, and the general public to ensure a survivor’s rights and needs tare addressed.
9. Maintain good working relationships with tribal and community resource agencies.
10. Maintains professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of work and complies with all applicable tribal, federal, or state laws and procedures.
11. Responds to victims of crime, such as sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, human trafficking, date violence and child sexual abuse; during and/or after business hours.
12. Participates in community-wide victim advocacy efforts and committees.
13. Attend Victim of Crime Program conferences, training, and other appropriate meetings, traveling as necessary.
14. All other position related duties as assigned by supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sitting for long periods of time with occasional standing, walking, or reaching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves manual dexterity to operate office equipment and while keyboarding. An employee will need normal, or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing and will carry work related materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment. The employee’s work schedule may frequently need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Occasional overnight travel may be necessary to attend meetings or trainings.
