$17 - $25 an hour

Emergency Veterinary Hospital (EVH) of Eugene-Springfield, Oregon is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant for our Sunday to Tuesday Overnight shift. Previous Veterinary experience is preferred but we are willing to train the right candidate! Veterinary Assistant Level I (or Level II/III depending on previous experience) will provide patient care, documentation on medical records, aid in client/doctor communication and maintain cleanliness of the hospital. A VA I will work under direct supervision of CVT’s or VA III. Providing clear, respectful, compassionate communication to clients, patients and colleagues is of the greatest importance at the Emergency Veterinary Hospital of Springfield!

We strive to provide safe (for animal and nurse) handling of cats, dogs, and exotics while maintaining optimal patient comfort.

Shifts to be covered are 3-12 hour shifts, Sunday – Tuesday, Scheduled hours are typically 7pm-7am (8pm-8am or 9pm-9am will also be considered).

Our Team

With our expansion into a brand-new facility, we hope to bring many additional emergency veterinarians, specialists and support staff into our family. You will be working closely with our team including our Medical Director, Dr. Max Rinaldi and an experienced Hospital Administration team. Dr. Rinaldi, was raised in Nevada and received his DVM from Kansas State University, graduating in 2012. Dr. Rinaldi then spent a year in a rotating Internal Medicine and Surgery Internship at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, followed by a year internship in Exotic Animal Medicine and Surgery at Louisiana State University. Dr. Rinaldi's professional interests include emergency and critical care, emergency surgery, and exotic animal medicine.

Successful Candidates will possess the following skills and knowledge (or have the ability to learn):

  • Phlebotomy and IVC placement
  • Ability to record for patients receiving CPR
  • Understanding Isolation protocols
  • Understand aseptic technique and surgical preparation
  • Know common medications, their indications and route of administration
  • Understand what patients need immediate care
  • Practice proper restraint techniques to prevent injury to patients, self and coworkers.
  • Knowledge and proper use of different restraint/safety devices
  • Centrifuge and stat spin use and other laboratory equipment
  • Proper set up for fecal floats, smears, and cytology
  • Proper use/completion of lab forms and logs
  • Documentation including client communications, treatments and controlled drug logs

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Scheduling availability for overnight shifts
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • The ability to lift, push and pull up to 40lbs
  • Ability to withstand long hours of standing, squatting, kneeling and walking
  • Adapt to an ever-changing work environment
  • Maintain objectivity during highly stressful/emotional situations
  • Keep a positive and professional demeanor during interactions with clients and team members
