Job Description:
The Utility Worker (Wastewater) is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all wastewater system lines and equipment, including pumps, meters, meter boxes, valves, and services; collects samples; responds to and resolves customer inquiries regarding service, repairs, or billing issues; performs general maintenance of grounds and facilities. This position is located in Keauhou, Hawaii (Big Island).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains, operates, and repairs wastewater mains and system equipment, including pumps and valves
  • Collects routine samples per established schedule
  • Responds to customers' inquiries regarding services, repairs, or billing issues
  • Performs general maintenance of grounds, facilities, and services
  • Participates in the Company on-call rotation and must be available to respond to after-hour call-outs.
  • Complies with Company policies and procedures regarding safe working conditions; attends required safety training
  • Participates in and supports the Company's Continuous Improvement program and projects
  • Performs other similar duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or possession of a GED
  • One year of experience working in a construction, plumbing, or utility environment
  • Hawaii State Department of Health Wastewater Treatment Grade 1 Certification preferred.
  • Must obtain Wastewater Treatment Grade 1 within 18 months of employment
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications
  • Valid Hawaii Driver's License and good driving record required
  • Must be available for call outs, evenings, holidays, and weekend work
  • Must live within 45 minutes of Keauhou
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance and repair of pumps, pump controls and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of current principles and practices involved in wastewater systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices and procedures for wastewater systems, and work site safety.
  • Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting repair and installation.
  • Ability to communicate well with others, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specification and/or oral instructions.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to regularly interact with employees, public, and customers requiring common sense, tact and diplomacy in order to accomplish assignments.
Salary Range: $20.00 - $30.00
