Powered by AmeriCorps*, Up2Us Sports Coaches harness the power of sports to transform the lives of youth and local organizations within their communities. Throughout their service term, Up2Us Sports Coaches are trained on how to use sports to inspire youth to achieve their potential and develop life skills that lead to success on and off the playing field. Up2Us Sports Coaches participate in service projects throughout their communities and join a network of over 3,000 Up2Us Sports Coaches and alumni.

As an Up2Us Coach, you will be working with your host site to bring sports and mentorship to children who need it the most. You will leverage the power of sports and your advanced coach training to inspire youth to achieve their full potential.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Complete your minimum number of hours of service from the start date to your end date. We have positions available for a minimum of 450 hours all the way to 1700 hours to be completed from your contracted start date to end date. To be determined based on your goals, availability and location.
• Participate in Up2Us Sports in-person training sessions. To be announced by your Up2Us Program Manager.
• Provide the instruction for assigned group through a variety of activities including, but not limited to, homework help, computer, fitness, social skills, literacy, and artistic expression.
• Lead youth in sport activities like basketball, flag football, group games, etc.
• Lead intentional sports and service learning programming.
• Encourage teamwork, leadership and positive life skills.
• Engage with the children to build significant, positive relationships.
• Assist with supervision during special events and field trips.
• Assist in building and program preparation as needed.
• Support and encourage volunteers as they serve in the program.
• Responsible for ensuring safety and following all protocols for transportation.
• Other duties as assigned by your Program Manager and Senior Program Director.

Up2Us Sports Coaches Receive:

• A Total Living Allowance of $4,500 for a Quarter-Time Coach (450 Hours), $9,000 for a Half-Time Coach (900 Hours), $15,105 for a Three-Quarter-Time Coach (1200 Hours), and $20,399 for a Full-Time Coach (1700 Hours).
• An End of Term Education Award.
• Eligibility for Student Loan Forbearance, SNAP Benefits, Member Assistance Program, and other AmeriCorps Member Benefits.
• Advanced Sports-Based Youth Development Coach Training.
• Up2Us Sports and Host Site Professional Development Training.
• Up2Us Sports Gear.

Eligibility & Qualifications

• Must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Experience or motivated to work with children.
• Experience participating in sports or coaching.
• General understanding of physical activity standards for youth.
• Maintain classroom management and ability to work with behavioral issues among youth populations.
• Ability to organize information in a clear and logical manner.
• Ability to meet short deadlines and willingness to work additional hours during deadline periods.
• Complete required outcomes and surveys required by Up2Us Sports.
• Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends for the purposes of meeting specific deadlines, community outreach activities, and/or fundraising events.
• Ability to communicate effectively and frequently with management staff.
