Job Summary:
The Universal Teller processes various financial transactions in an effective and accurate manner. Creates a great member experience by completing and responding to member requests timely. Gains member loyalty by asking questions and providing solutions to meet our member’s needs. Educates and informs members of all Credit Union products and services, and refers and/or cross-sells Credit Union products and services in order to contribute to team goals.
Major Responsibilities:

  • Opens and maintenances accounts to include share, checking, money market, or business accounts; certificates of deposit, IRA’s, HSA’s, and/or safe deposit boxes. Adheres to account opening guidelines by collecting required documents and completing all required forms correctly to ensure accuracy and a great member experience. Responds to member questions and/or account inquiries by providing courteous, prompt, and accurate account information to include effectively resolving member complaints or issues; directing members to the appropriate person; or referring escalated matters along with recommendations to the appropriate department supervisor or manager.
  • Processes a variety of financial transactions in a prompt, efficient, and accurate manner in accordance with Credit Union and regulatory compliance guidelines to include but not limited to, deposits: withdrawals; transfers; check cashing; loan payments; credit card payments/advances; and gift card purchases. Maintains a satisfactory balancing record by utilizing cash machines. Exercises necessary due diligence to prevent monetary loss and errors to include completing various logs, forms, and reports to document transactions for audit and research purposes.
  • Identifies and prevents fraudulent transactions by routinely reading the Mark (Intranet) and internal emails for fraud alerts; reviews and inspects checks, money orders, drafts and other negotiable instruments; verifies member identity and signatures; reviews the member's account history for suspicious activity and comments; and places the appropriate holds on checks to avoid non-sufficient funds and/or returned checks.
  • Initiate, cancel, and modify automatic transfers including adjustments to loan accounts when necessary; electronic services assistance; stop payments, statement print-outs, check reorders, and printing of temporary checks.
  • Contributes to team goals by identifying, educating, and referring products and services that support taking our members lives from good to better and to support member retention. In addition promotes our partner services to include Firstmark Retirement/Investment, Insurance, Mortgage, and Paychex by identifying these opportunities for our members.
  • Submits loan applications, conducts loan closings, gathers required documents for loan processing, and provides disbursement support for automobile, credit cards, home equity, and personal loans. Consistently promotes products such as Credit Life and Credit Disability insurance, GAP protection, or warranty coverage while adhering to applicable Credit Union policies, procedures, and governmental regulations to ensure compliance, integrity, professionalism, quality, and timely service delivery.
  • Participates in business development activities to generate additional business to include, but not limited to, making outbound and business-to-business calls, attending FMCU events, conducting financial awareness or career day presentations at local schools, and attending business chamber or community events.
  • Will assist Member Care Center as needed. Provides prompt professional service by telephone in a fast paced high volume call center. Will address and respond to member transactional request, answer questions, provide online banking assistance and refer products and services with the goal of achieving 100% member loyalty. Understands and adheres to caller authentication procedures to ensure the protection of all member information in accordance with member privacy policies.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualification and Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Must have 1 - 2 years financial institution experience or retail sales and/or customer service experience, preferred.
  • Registered Mortgage Loan Originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS), preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of all financial transactions, negotiable instruments, deposit/loan products and policies.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable Federal and State laws pertaining to consumer lending to include Dodd Frank/Truth in Lending Act, FNMA and Freddie MAC guidelines and knowledge of VA and FHA requirements.
  • Basic understanding of financial products and services such as payment protection, GAP protection, or warranty coverage.
  • Basic knowledge of loan processing and closing policies, procedures, documents, underwriting requirements, Credit Union requirements, terminology, and automated processing systems.
  • Working knowledge of credit policies and approval processes.
  • Strong orientation to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in processing transactions and detecting discrepancies.
  • Excellent member service skills in interacting with members, supervisors, and co-workers in a positive, cooperative, and courteous manner. Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential in interacting with others inside and outside the Credit Union.
  • Proficient mathematical skills to include accurately count money; add, subtract, multiply, divide; and to record balance, and/or check results for accuracy.
  • Strong computer and keyboard skills which includes MS Word and Excel, ten-key number pad or calculator by touch, and exposure to on-line account applications such as Symitar.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal regulations including BSA/AML, Community Reinvestment Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Regulation E, Regulation CC, and the like, and the Member Service roles and responsibilities relating to each act.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in decisions regarding transaction approvals and member problem resolutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize opportunities to cross-sell products and services to existing members and prospects.
