Job Title: Truancy/Security Officer
Reports to: Chief of Police and/or Senior Security Advisor and Truancy Officer as determined by job requirements
Primary Purpose:
Shall perform their duties during all twelve (12) months of the District's fiscal year (July 1 to June 30), and at the direction of and under the supervision of the Superintendent and Chief of Police. He/she shall maintain cooperative and effective relationships with the District's
Administrative staff. He/she shall demonstrate competence, leadership, personal example, integrity and sensitivity in the exercise of his/her vested responsibility and authority. He/She shall be directly responsible for all areas assigned by the Board, the Superintendent and the Chief of Police. A specific and detailed job description is below.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with Juveniles or Juvenile Court System
- Knowledge of the School Code and applicable laws
- Knowledge of technology as related to specific job functions
- Act 235 Certification or Act 120 Certification
NOTE: Must maintain valid and active certifications at all times as a condition of employment. If any certification is not currently active the employee must obtain the certification within six months of employment.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with the safety and security of Ringgold School District.
- Coordinate Truancy matters on behalf of Ringgold School District.
- Assist the Chief of Police regarding safety and security of the Ringgold School District.
- Assist the Chief of Police with evaluating the District's security program on a continuing basis and recommending changes or drafting plans as necessary or directed.
- Establish and maintain a positive rapport with students by encouraging communication and discussion, being visible during lunch periods (when possible), and participating in school programs and other
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with administrators, faculty, and public.
- Work with school administration to determine if truancy action is appropriate based on information provided by the school administrator(s) related to specific incidents.
- Initiate, investigate and prosecute all Truancy issues on behalf of the Ringgold School District. To coordinate and report those Truancy matters with the appropriate Principal and the Administration.
- Investigate issues and reports of harassment, bullying, assault, vandalism, tobacco use, and other possible offenses on school buses and at school bus stops. To coordinate those investigations with the Transportation Division and the appropriate Principal to initiate student discipline. To coordinate those investigations with the Chief of Police to initiate criminal prosecution if appropriate.
- Exhibit good judgment and initiative in emergency situations per Ringgold School District's Policies.
- Attend scheduled hearings with the courts (County and local) on behalf of the District.
- Assist the Chief of Police with strategies to minimize property loss and maintain inventory control.
- Assist the Chief of Police with developing procedures and protocols to deal with emergencies and maintaining an emergency management plan.
- Serve as a security consultant during the planning and designing of new facilities.
- Act as a liaison when directed by the Chief of Police to work with local public safety authorities on matters affecting school security.
- When directed by the Superintendent or the Chief of Police to conduct presentations to various community groups and organizations relative to school security.
- Provide security for district events including but not limited to home football games, home boys’ basketball games, graduation, Open House, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Prom.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Superintendent or Chief of Police. Is bound by and subject to a Confidentiality Agreement, which is incorporated into this contract by reference.
- Responsible for the safety and welfare of students and staff at all times within the school setting and/or on school property.
- Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Must have or obtain within 6 months of employment CPR Certification and First Aid Certification.

- If Act 120, within two years of employment, obtain NASRO Advanced SRO Certification.
- Must successfully obtain ALICE Instructor training certification based on schedule and class availability.
- Shall adhere to School District policies and Administrative Regulations.
- Have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
- Must have or obtain within 6 months of employment Act 235 Certification, CPR Certification, and First Aid Certification.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the applicable policies of the Ringgold School District. During the probationary period, employees’ work performance shall be periodically assessed.
