Tribal Roads Coordinator Job at Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska
Position Description:
The Roads Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of planning, organization and implementation of the Tribal Transportation Program. This includes close collaboration with federal funding agencies as well as landowners and Municipal government staff. At full performance level, this position requires project and construction management skills as well as timely completion of reporting and database management.

Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains regular and respectful communication with coworkers, Tribal Council and Tribal members, and partner organizations.
- Conducts work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion on behalf of Qawalangin Tribal members.
- Performs a wide variety of administrative and project management functions for the Roads Program under the direction of the Chiefs Executive and Operating Officers.
- Coordinates with Federal Highway Administration’s Federal Lands Highway Office (FHWA) and the Bureau of Indian Affairs’ (BIA) Division of Transportation, in accordance with all applicable agreements and regulations.
- Creates partnerships and collaborates with federal, state, city and other transportation stakeholders to maximize opportunities to implement the Tribe’s transportation improvement priorities.
- Determines equipment needs to meet program requirements; Manage the procurement, replacement, and repair of road maintenance vehicles, and other heavy and specialized equipment.
- Coordinates the planning and coordination of activities pertaining to Roads projects to ensure work plan goals and objectives are being met in a timely manner for completion.
- Responsibility for maintaining all documents, correspondence, and files pertaining to projects; including contracts and agreements with workers or vendors performing work or projects.
- Reviews and maintains the National Tribal Transportation Facility Inventory (NTTFI) as needed.
- Conducts updates to the Tribal Transportation Improvement Program (TTIP) and Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) as required.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable Federal Tribal Transportation Program laws and regulations.
- Other Duties as required.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must be able to build and maintain positive relationships with Tribal, community and staff members.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be sensitive to community and cultural needs and values.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. Waivers available.
- Must have a clean Alaska Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of working for the Tribe.
- Construction and/or project management experience is preferred.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 programs, including Excel, Word, and SharePoint.

Compensation: This position is term regular full-time, non-exempt, non-supervisory with a salary range of $51,787 to $77,681. Benefits include health, dental, vision, short and long-term disabilities, life insurance; 2% employer contribution to an IRA; paid time off accrued at .10 per hour worked; Holidays as outlined in the Policies and Procedures.
