TMA Towson University Food Security Initiative Job at AmeriCorps
The Food Insecurity Initiative is a plan to create a new food pantry (Food Share) to the campus of Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (and Harford County) over the next three years. The program plan is to create a Food Pantry (Food Share) based on research and assessments gathered. Collaborations from community partners and TUNE students will be expected to gain expertise and feedback along the way. There will be marketing of the pantry, recruitment of volunteers, education, trainings, programming, and an advisory group. There will be a tracking system in place and new measurable goals implemented each year. The TMA AmeriCorps VISTA member, their supervisor, and student leaders and volunteers will be the major collaborators on this project. By end of year 3, the hope is to have the Food Pantry (Food Share) at TUNE fully sustainable.
Member Duties : The Food Insecurity Initiative would respond to the issue of Healthy Futures by offering a new food pantry (Food Share) to the campus of Towson University in Northeastern Maryland (and Harford County) over the next three years. The VISTA member will assist in creating the framework for the project by utilizing data gathered from campus surveys, along with institutional data to target underrepresented students facing food insecurity. They will promote the Food Share while building campus and community partnerships to ensure the success of the project and recruit and train pantry volunteers that can help with daily operations. VISTA member will help develop a curriculum and co-facilitate educational workshops around finances, food security, and sustainability. VISTA will also help host events like a Farmers Market and Wellness Fair.
