The Julia Brown Schools were founded in 1967 by Charles and Julia Brown. We have over 50 years of experience educating the children using the Montessori method of education. We currently serve children ages 15 months to 9 years old. Our environment is calm and peaceful.

Montessori is a system of education for young children that seeks to develop natural interests and activities rather than use formal traditional teaching methods. Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator, developed this unique method of learning in 1907. If you are interested in the Montessori method, there is room for growth at our schools. We prefer to promote from within.

We are looking for staff to assist our Montessori Directors/Directresses during our Montessori classes and then to work in our before/aftercare program as well as our summer program. Our staff must be caring, dependable, dedicated individuals who truly enjoy working with young children. We would prefer that candidate have completed one or more of the 45 hour courses: Child Growth and Development, Infant/Toddler, Preschool and/or School Age.

We have four locations in Maryland:

  • Laurel
  • Columbia
  • Silver Spring
  • Olney

Responsibilities

  • Following the principles of the Montessori method, develop careful and creative aftercare activities suitable for preschool children.
  • Willingness to learn about the Montessori method of education
  • Manage lunch, nap, recess, and snack times
  • Supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards

Skills

  • Proven experience as a Toddler or Preschool Teacher
  • Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
  • Excellent communication and instructional skills
  • Patient, flexible, friendly and reliable
  • Flexibility to work with group on your own or to work as a team with a fellow staff
  • Balance between a creative mind and a practical acumen

Requirements

  • Dependable

  • Proof of at least High School diploma, some college preferred
  • Willingness to take required child care certification courses

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
