We are seeking a Mandarin Teacher for our Hoboken & Jersey City campuses for the 2023-2024 academic year. This is a 10-month, full-time assignment starting in August 2023 and ending June 2024. Standard work hours and time off as per the Faculty/Staff Handbook.

The Candidate

You have a successful track record of teaching Mandarin as a World Language to elementary students. We are looking for candidates who bring creativity, excellent relationship skills and a collaborative approach to their craft. The Mandarin teacher will also exhibit a passion for fostering a strong culture of student engagement in learning, in close alignment with our mission. Our faculty models a spirit of collaboration and inquiry to inspire students to “explore, question and communicate in ways that will shape the future.” Candidates will be culturally competent with effective organizational and classroom management skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary in order to develop interpersonal relationships with faculty, families, and students.

You are an energetic, self-starting professional with a positive attitude. You work collaboratively with others in a small community and can instill confidence in the program with parents and caregivers. You are creative, flexible and have excellent organizational and classroom management skills. You possess the strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to develop interpersonal relationships with faculty, parents, and students.

Responsibilities

• Teach Mandarin language and associated cultures to designated grade levels (2nd through 4th grade)
• Understand and implement teaching and learning practices based on visual aids, inquiry, exploratory approaches, conversational opportunities, storytelling, and creative expression
• Write progress reports twice per school year and attend teacher/parent/guardian conferences as needed
• Integrate technology (Mac-based, Google Suite and use of Smart Panels and Chromebooks)
• Cultivate and maintain a safe and inclusive classroom culture that values various perspectives
• Continue to develop and modify curriculum and look for opportunities to integrate curriculum with other disciplines
• Has knowledge and implements a range of assessment practices including projects and conversational exercises
• Develop students’ cultural competencies and help them find connections to the world
• Communicate with colleagues and families around student issues and needs
• Interact effectively and sensitively with a diverse population of students, faculty and parent/caregiver body

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $60,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
