Job Summary
Under general supervision, receives incoming telephone calls from the public and provides various types of information, primarily related to ad valorem taxes.
Job Description
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
Entry Level. Provides excellent customer service to a large number of taxpayers via telephone, in person, and written correspondence. Gathers information, determines needs of customer, provides explanation in a concise manner; handles customer complaints and problems effectively, redirects calls to other offices when necessary. Packages bills to owners of multiple properties, accurately processes approximately $150 million dollars of property tax payments. Analyzes and determines acceptability of all other payments. Calculates fees, and calculates interest accruing monthly for delinquent accounts. Enters proper information on statements for data entry and enter address changes to tax rolls. Corresponds with taxpayers when necessary and maintains files. Accesses and retrieves information from other sources in an effort to determine correct mailing information for a large volume of returned mail. Assist the Delinquent Tax Division with proofreading galleys, certified mailings, and conduction of sales. Microfilm/scan daily checks and depository tickets for all deposits. Verifies cash taken in the cashier division and prepares the deposit for the bank. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Skill in public relations dealing with general public; in strong interpersonal relation applicable to handling customers; in communicating; written and oral, including proper telephone etiquette. Knowledge of PC programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel; Office policies and procedures, and functions of other county Offices and of ad valorem tax collection cycle. Extensive knowledge of state statutes as they relate to the ad valorem tax sale. Ability to operate Office machines including personal computer word processing and spreadsheets, 10-key by touch speed of at least 5,000 keystrokes per hour, typewriter, microfilm/scanner equipment, copier and fax; perform more than one job function at a time, to deal tactfully with others; and to perform mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy. Design spreadsheets and assist in training. All employees are required to extensively cross train for one or more other job duties of the Office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) supplemented by courses in typing, personal computers, 10-key, etc., and over one year qualifying experience. Ten key skills of 5,000 keystrokes per hour. Keyboarding of 40 words per minute.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. This job requires thinking, concentrating, learning and remembering.
