As a Power System Protection Engineer in Engineering Services, you’ll provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide.
As a Protection Engineer, a typical day might include the following:
- Possessing, understanding and applying the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of power system protection and related SEL products.
- Training and assisting customers with the creation, design, configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems.
- Developing technical proposals for customers.
- Protection scheme testing and troubleshooting.
- Completing and implementing assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.
- Participating in the preparation of functional design specifications.
- Preparing and maintaining detailed design documents, reports, checklists, test reports, and deliverables.
- Following and applying SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
This job might be for you if:
- You have knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications.
- Have working knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology and protective relay applications
- You are willing to travel about 25%
- You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- You like to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
- 5+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices, and protection area practices and philosophies (System protection, protective relays and their applications, settings, and testing)
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL
- Negative drug test result(s)

Salary Range Data
Project Engineer I $102,000 - $125,000. Project Engineer II $117,000 - $143,000. (etc.) We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
