Deliver, implement and evaluate the Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative on-farm
sustainability, animal care and workforce development programs on member farms.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct FARM Animal Care Evaluations, FARM Environmental Stewardship Assessments and FARM Workforce Development Assessments
  • Follow-up on any MCAPs or CIPs that are in place – document follow-up visits and improvements in Salesforce
  • Develop FARM follow-up letters after the initial visits and evaluations
  • Organize training for member farms in cooperation with animal welfare experts, veterinarians, land grant universities and others.
  • Identify best practices across member farms and help to accelerate the adoption of best practices on member farms.
  • Work with other Member Services Staff to ensure a consistent message to the membership.
  • Assist in identifying farms that can host customers for farm tours and assist in the farm tours
  • Conduct Nutrient Management and Conservation Plans Implementation and Assessments
  • Conduct Dairy Image Evaluations
  • Expand conservation compliance program across MDVA – identify funding for all farms to improve environmental footprint.
  • Assess risks that may be discovered on some operations and provide the opportunity for a proactive approach to develop a continuous improvement plan or path forward
  • Assess the implementation of the MDVA SOP packet and identify areas that need to be improved and other resources that MDVA can develop to assist our membership in meeting the marketplace expectations.
  • Implement the FARM program with the highest level of integrity. Best practice is that evaluators do not have a prior or extensive relationship with a dairy to eliminate bias.
  • Collect data on farm that is quantifiable and aggregated and easily communicated to customers.
  • Develop innovative programs that show the “local” brand to the end consumer
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

TRAVEL

  • Must be able to set up a home office, within our cooperative footprint, traveling to the corporate office in Reston, VA as needed.
  • Will also travel to meetings, events, and as necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Up to 50% travel with some overnight travel required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.), in animal science, dairy science, agriculture economics, food science, environmental science, public relations, business or project management:
  • And five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must have a strong background in working with a multidisciplinary group of professionals and industry representatives.
  • Able to bring consensus to group decision making.
  • Able to set future direction in organizational planning by effectively communicating new/current plans to staff and industry stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time and multiple projects in a demanding team environment.
  • Willing and able to travel as required (50%).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, legal documents and trade publications.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community as well as co-op members and consumers.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, public groups, and boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to present quantitative data utilizing an electronic spreadsheet calculation.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • FARM evaluator credentials preferred, with FARM Train the Trainer certification strongly encouraged.
  • If applicant does not have FARM evaluator credentials and FARM Train the Trainer certification it will be completed within 3 months of the start date.
  • Valid driver's license required.
