The Supply Chain Director is responsible for enterprise-wide forecasting and procurement of materials and securing of services through field and corporate purchasing channels in achievement of required operational needs and cost saving initiatives, requiring close coordination and collaboration across multiple divisions, functional departments, business units/regions. The position manages a staff leading the procurement of materials, tooling, and warehousing activities by evaluating suppliers for quality, pricing, and delivery timeliness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Initiate and direct frequent spend analysis by category to identify opportunities for increasing value through a balancing of cost savings and operational forecasting of material needs.
  • Identify and implement purchasing process improvements to increase efficiency through standardization, automation, delegation, and elimination of non-value-added work.
  • Determine projected material needs to allocate on-hand inventory and to develop material forecasts to share with suppliers.
  • Evaluate and implement supplier stocking or Kanban programs, as appropriate.
  • Evaluate Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and implement as appropriate.
  • Support operations in setting up remote warehouses/material storge yards to enable effective inventory management and tracking of material usage.
  • Develop and implement standardized process for inventory management in field warehouses and maintain reporting/tracking.
  • Ensure that enterprise-wide purchasing policies and procedures are written, appropriate to operations, distributed and trained throughout organization, and deviations are identified and reported.
  • Plan future operational levels and identify gaps to meet capacity with emphasis on efficiency and effectiveness in meeting changing business conditions and operations.
  • Implement and manage warehouse tracking system utilizing technology to track, allocate, and manage materials in support of operational needs.
  • Develop and manage key supplier and equipment provider relationships,
  • Evaluate opportunities for consolidating spend across all divisions and departments of the enterprise and, as appropriate, negotiate national supplier contracts.
  • Manage the tactical daily operation of corporate purchasing department to ensure goods and services are available when needed, in required quantities, and delivered consistent with the operational and maintenance needs of the enterprise.
  • Foster cross-functional relationships between departments and business units.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (Business, Supply Chain Management or Construction Management) required.
  • 6 – 10 years’ experience in strategic sourcing or lead procurement role with direct experience in leadership and managerial capacity.
  • Ability to negotiate and sustain networking relationships with operations and home office shared services.
  • Understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgement.
  • Practiced and proficient at contract negotiations, development, administration and management.
  • Must have proficient computer software skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Must have excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Expert organizational and planning skills; attention to detail; productive without compromising quality.
  • Prior work experience in the utility construction industry, and/or with construction services preferred.
  • Travel to suppliers, industry association and customer meetings may be required.
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) or C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager) preferred.
