Microsoft’s Cloud business is experiencing explosive growth, and the Capacity, Supply Chain & Provisioning (CSCP) organization is responsible for enabling the infrastructure underlying this growth. Our mission is to deliver the world’s computer with an industry-leading supply chain. CSCP is responsible for strategic sourcing, customer demand forecasting, capacity planning and management, supply chain planning and execution, capacity provisioning, and decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide.

CSCP supports over 200 online businesses including Bing, O365, OneDrive, Xbox and Windows Azure branded services. Cloud Sourcing, Supply Chain, Spares and Security organization within CSCP manages sourcing and supply of hardware for the data centers. Well-defined and executed sourcing and supply chain management ensures reliable on-time performance, optimized cost, prevents urgent and unplanned investments, and provides accurate and timely information across the supply base and internally across the infrastructure organization.

We are seeking a Supply Chain Manager to join the Storage Commodity sourcing team within Spares and Security to manage Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) supply chain. In this role, you will be instrumental in delivering operational excellence for supply chain management, supplier relationship management, and balancing Microsoft’s business priorities for the acquisition of technology and services related to compute & storage systems.

Responsibilities

Supply Chain Management:
  • Support development and execution of a supply plan spanning a multi-year strategy
  • Mitigate continuity of supply risk and develop key escalation channels across supply base
  • Take part in executing providing feedback on sourcing strategy and then executing to it
  • Drive change management to continuously improve efficiency and performance via repeatable business processes
  • Develop supplier capabilities on planning and supply chain operations delivery

Supply Chain Planning:
  • On board the new supplier to ensure they meet established requirements and expectation
  • Partnering with Component Material Planning and Sourcing Managers, determine the optimal product mix for suppliers in accordance with latest forecast
  • Work with Supply Chain, and Capacity Planning teams on the timing and availability of product transitions to plan for platform end of life minimizing excessive and obsolete inventory and ramp of new platforms
  • Review priorities between production and spares to create allocation plans for constrained materials.

Supply Chain Operations:
  • Review all purchase orders placed by Microsoft for pilot, production, and spares to assure compliance and supportability against our inventory positioning
  • Meet regularly with assigned suppliers to review forecast, capture supply commitments and publish internally
  • Define inventory buffer targets (in conjunction with Component Planning) and strategies based on historical usage and forecast. Define financial risk/liability associated with said buffers
  • Responsible for all analytics surrounding commodity operations, including but not limited to: Demand/Supply views, forecast changes, Strat Buy Analyses, etc.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field AND 1+ year(s) supply planning, operations, supply chain, indirect supply planning, technology-related supply chain, sourcing and manufacturing, or related experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Supply Chain Analytics, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with memory and storage commodities.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Exceptional leadership skills and growth mindset to drive cross functional engagement
  • Ability to partner with internal and external engineering teams to build credibility and trust while driving alignment around common strategy.
  • Demonstrate track record in supply management and supplier negotiation
  • Professional degree, preferably Engineering disciplines. MBA desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically but detailed oriented to support hypothesis with facts.
  • Ability to clearly articulate points of view with executive management.
Supply Planning IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $72,800 - $144,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $95,100 - $157,900 per year.
