About the Role:
Our Supplier Engineering team is looking for a Supplier Engineer II to be based out of our site in Spencer, IN. This job concentrates on supporting Sustaining activities and driving internal material qualification activities for injection molded, extruded, and adhesive products along with managing and supporting EU MDR activities.
Your Responsibilities will Include:
- Supports and interfaces with R&D, Process Development, Quality, Production, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Marketing, and works with external suppliers to develop standard and custom devices used in Boston Scientific products.
- Exercises sound problem solving and decision-making processes to make decisions in the face of ambiguous circumstances.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities: Work with suppliers to evaluate their capabilities related to injection molding, tooling, and other aspects of molded plastics production.
- Supports Supplier Engineering Project Leads on defining supplier down selection and material requirements by collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners to clarify design intent, identify critical design outputs, and assess material risks.
- Supports investigation of process capability issues with external suppliers providing sample components and materials for development builds.
- Manage Mold projects: Ensure that quality and performance requirements are met at the suppliers.
- Works with Procurement, Supplier Quality Engineering, Receiving Inspection & Business Units to ensure that components meet established requirements.
- Ensures that adequate Corrective Actions are identified and implemented by external suppliers.
- Provides guidance to other functional areas in applying Supplier Management system requirements
- Utilizes skillsets in Process Capability, Material Management, Supplier Relationships, and Design for Manufacturability.
- Contributes to the development, maintenance and improvement of Supplier Management Policies and Procedures.
- Communicates effectively with all Internal & External Stakeholders.
- Must comply with requirements of ISO 14001:2004 and BSC Environmental, Health and Safety standards and follow procedures and instructions related to these standards.
- Travel 10%-15% required domestically and internationally to meet with suppliers and business partners.
What We're Looking for in You:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Materials, Plastics, Chemical, Mechanical)
- 3+ years in a related industry with experience in a process/manufacturing/supplier engineering role
- Must have excellent mechanical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work on cross functional teams focusing on specification development for Molded plastic component designs
- Individual must be self-driven and self-motivated to learn and use that knowledge to produce results.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Medical Device experience
- New product development and/or sustaining experience supporting plastic component development
- Risk reduction project management experience focused on quality, service, and cost.
- Previous experience working with external suppliers is preferred.
- Sound demonstrated understanding of critical thinking, statistical methods, six sigma methodologies, DOE
