Summary:
Shared Services Addison County is hiring early childcare substitute teachers. We are launching a shared substitute staff pool for six local early childcare centers. The Substitute Teacher will work under the direction of classroom teachers to support the implementation of developmentally appropriate programming that fits the philosophy of each childcare center. The substitute shall be responsible for aiding the classroom teachers in the implementation of the daily schedule and routine, activities, and ensuring safety, security, and supervision of children. The substitute shall develop nurturing relationships with children and families within the context of consistent daily routines.

Duties

Essential Duties:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily at each center they are hired as a substitute teacher. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. The individual filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties outlined below.

General:

Use daily classroom activities and routines as opportunities to promote children's social, emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development.
Always maintain required adult-child ratios in the classroom.
Maintain constant supervision of children (remain within sight and sound of children at all times).
Follow classroom policies and procedures to endure the health and safety of children at all times.

Classroom:

Supervise and support children in classroom routines which may include: toileting, diapering, food preparation, and transitions.
Assist in keeping the classroom organized and arranged appropriately.
Model Appropriate behaviors.
Utilize developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques in the classroom, as needed, to guide and support children's needs.
Follow proper procedures when releasing children during pick up time.
Assist teachers in maintaining open and positive communication with parents/legal guardians.
Complete trainings required by Vermont's Child Care Regulations.
Report any issues or concerns that arise in communication with parents/legal guardians.
Adhere to any COVID-19 safety regulations currently in place, including assisting with new cleaning protocols and procedures.

Communicate with staff members regarding issues concerning children and/or their parent/legal guardian.
Follow through with program decisions, plans, and expectations.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required
Must be able to pass a background check
Must have reliable transportation and be willing to work in multiple locations
Preference will be given to those who have prior early childcare experience and/or a willingness to complete required trainings within one year of hire.
Strenuous activity may be required at times
Must be able to communicate effectively while maintaining an overall positive professional attitude/disposition
Must enjoy working with children
Successful completion upon hire (within three months): Adult and Pediatric First Aid and CPR
Mandated Reporter Training, VT Orientation though Better Kid Care, and site specific orientations before allowed to work in a center
