Standing Together Against Rape [STAR] VOLUNTEER ADVOCATE Job at One Place Family Justice Center
Role:
The role of the Volunteer Advocate is to be present for victims of sexual assault and their families during the time of crisis. The Volunteer Advocate must be able ot provide empathy, be caring, respectful and provide referrals when needed. The Volunteer Advocate will be available to help with the following:
> Normalize feelings > Listen empathetically Be there for the victim, both physically and emotionally Answer questions » Provide accurate information about legal and medical procedures • Help identify and review options so that the victim can make informed decisions » Provide appropriate referrals Safeguard the dignity and rights of the client • Work with law enforcement and medical staff as appropriate > Be available for the victim / survivor first
Responsibilities:
> Take call (2 X 12hr shifts) twice a month (minimum) Respond ot crisis calls for support, advocacy, direction, guidance > Accompany victims lo medical examinations (SANE room and at local hospitals) > Accompany victims ot law enforcement interviews (at One Place and local law enforcement stations) • Be empathetic • Advocate for the victim
Requirements:
> Provide paperwork follow-up on all crisis calls responded to (via the hotline and in person) > Have access to a phone and able to respond quickly Be able to respond to the SANE facility in Montgomery in person within 45 minutes of the call received • Have reliable transportation, current driver's license and automobile insurance > Good oral communication skills > Ability to be empathetic
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $1.00 - $1.50 per hour

- Weekend availability
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Montgomery, AL 36104: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
License/Certification:
