SUMMARY PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports Manager of Architectural Solutions in developing policies and processes that provide world-class service for customers requiring technical support information. Leads Product Application teams to ensure customer requests are prioritized and handled quickly and satisfactorily.

Responsible for monitoring and controlling the use of Pella products in moderate to high-risk/complex applications in order to significantly reduce corporate long-term exposure. Responsible for development of specialized methods of installation and custom "installation accessories" including initial concepts, testing and final application. Communicates needs across the organization for standard product design and offering improvements in response to industry needs and changes. Works with cross-functional team in support of updating and improving product application information. Provides product performance and application analyses, structural engineering and water management design requirements needed relative to architectural plans and specs, codes and standards for highly complex project specific window and door installation systems and applications in all Pella domestic and international markets. Responsible for leading teams of product application engineers, technicians and drafters to develop and implement installation designs into high quality bid submission and installation shop drawing documents to avoid liability to Pella Corporation and the sales organization. Works with product teams, corporate engineering and IT in the development of standardized charts and/or computer programs that will enhance the usability of information needed to properly specify Pella products in various applications. The scope of influence of this position spans field sales and technical representatives, architects/design engineers, end customers, Pella engineering, product development, manufacturing, quality, IT, and material vendors for all Pella Divisions. Influential leadership skills are necessary when prioritizing, planning, and implementing projects. The ability to effectively present information, defend a position and address concerns is key to fostering collaboration with each of these groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SCOPE:

Works collaboratively in a team environment with minimal supervision. Significantly influences senior leadership in strategic decision making and policy.

APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE:

Develops and evaluates plans for multiple projects and activities to be carried out by the team. Plans, schedules and coordinates detailed phases of a project or process change. Assesses the feasibility of proposed plans with limited data to drive projects forward when required. Carries out and supervises assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Work results in the development of improved equipment, materials, processes, products.

JUDGMENT:

Plans and coordinates work of self and others requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of advanced techniques and processes. Knowledge and judgment have a direct effect on team effectiveness. Devises and directs new approaches to problems encountered.

SUPERVISING OTHERS:

Supervisory responsibilities: Direct supervision for 5-15 staff members including Product Application Engineers, Sr. Project Technicians and Product Application Specialists

Travel expectations: 10-15% sporadically to supervise initial window and door installations, design meetings with architects and building owners, field testing, and field technical sales training

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Four-year degree in Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Structural Engineering or five-year Architecture Degree.

Experience: Experience in higher-end residential or light commercial / institutional construction. 7+ years of architectural or engineering experience.

Work hours: Normal plus irregular hours/shifts as required

Computer skills: AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Microsoft SharePoint, Databases, ability to develop and improve the content and function of departmental CAD software and processes

Technical / functional skills: Construction knowledge and current wall systems, structural background, industry knowledge, window and door installation methods.

Safety: Normal office environment. Periodically exposed to construction sites or test lab equipment where safe procedures must be followed. Occasional lifting of material up to 50 lbs. may be required.

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Registered Architect or Professional Engineering License preferred.
