Job Summary - Sr Systems Engineer I

Performs high level systems and security functions, including access control provisioning and de-provisioning through application of established processes and procedures. Participates in and often leads the development of new security processes and procedures and process improvement initiatives. Performs highly sensitive data mining and analysis. Provides expert technical assistance and consulting for security and operations-related issues. Regularly engaged in various security projects and initiatives. Monitors project initiatives and activities and assists in workload planning and distribution, process and procedure development and maintaining documentation.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

• Works on Positive Train Control Systems (PTC), working on integration of systems and ensuring viability of the architecture.
• Work on locomotive equipment systems and architecture, to drive technology roadmap to meet new capabilities and regulations
• Troubleshoot complex system failures and issues to drive to root cause and corrective actions to improve reliability and availability.
• Performs high level systems and security functions, including access control provisioning and de-provisioning through application of established processes and procedures. Uses experience to address unusual issues and helps coach less experienced staff
• Provides analytical consulting on complex projects
• Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
• 5 or more years of experience in Transportation Operations, Information Systems/Technology, or Logistics

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 10 or more years of experience in Transportation Operations, Information Systems/Technology, or Logistics

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree/4-year Degree
• 5 or more years of experience in Transportation Operations, Information Systems/Technology, or Logistics
• 10 or more years of supervisory experience in Transportation Operations, Information Systems/Technology, or Logistics
• Project Management Professional/Certified Associate in Project Management (PMP/CAPM)

Knowledge and Skills

• Thorough knowledge of Positive Train Control (PTC) systems, messaging and interoperability.
• Thorough knowledge of locomotive architectures and control systems.
• Strong experience with remote access to systems and ability to troubleshoot without impacting operations.
• Knowledge of Interoperable Train Control Messaging (ITCM) and associated applications (ELM, ISMI, etc.)
• Knowledge of Railroad Wayside equipment and Comms and Signals systems.
• Technical agility and strong analytical skills, excellent customer service skills and written/verbal communication skills
• Strong personal leadership skills; ability to work independently or collaboratively. Ability to work with cross-functional teams and build partnerships; willingness to engage team members and contribute to team goals.
• Working knowledge of Windows and Citrix server concepts and tools. Knowledge and understanding of Security Operations concepts.
• Ability to manage time effectively; ability to deliver in fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and security functions
  

Job Requirements

• Hours which include rotating on-call responsibilities which may be outside standard hours
• Work hours may vary in length and schedule (may include a non-standard work week)
