Job Responsibilities
  • Develops project objectives by conferring with business units and sites and reviewing business objectives.
  • Develops and leads the project team which typically includes plant management personnel; division management personnel; other engineers and subject matter experts; member of the safety, health, environmental and process excellence group; and member of the purchasing group, etc. to successfully complete the project.
  • Accurately defining the project scope.
  • Determine project specifications by studying equipment design, internal customer requirements, and standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  • Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements.
  • Determine project costs by utilizing cost estimating methods, comparable material and construction job costs, and solicit proposals based on specifications with assistance from purchasing group and developing project budgets.
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems.
  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and schedule changes; developing and executing actions.
  • Controls project costs by reviewing and approving expenditures; administering contractor contracts.
  • Managing the construction phase either directly or through contracted field supervisors.
  • Providing startup supervision and assistance. Also includes training of plant operators.
  • Detailed monthly reports indicating project progress and status from a financial and scheduling standpoint.
  • Preparing the required documentation for Capital Expenditure Requests (CER)
  • Communicating with Operations Managers, Plant Managers, and Plant Support staff regarding project progress.
  • Developing and leading a team consisting of plant operations, maintenance, SH&E to facilitate the successful completion of the project.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing and engineering settings
  • Preferred: Project Manager Professional (PMP) certified
  • Experience as a manager or cross functional team leader preferred
  • Strong computer skills are required, working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products, including Microsoft Project; AutoCAD and ChemCAD preferred
  • High level of knowledge and familiarity with Project Management Institute (PMI) principle
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Front End Loading (FEL) and/or Front End Engineering Design (FEED) process
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft, Project, etc)
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and process improvements
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision in a diverse, multidiscipline team environment
  • Ability to manage activities for multiple projects in parallel while effectively managing time and resources required
  • Prepares and communicates project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions.
  • Works with purchasing group to identify and contract with vendors and contractors.
  • Works with safety and environment group to ensure equipment and design specified meet safety and environmental standards. This may require leading/participation in PHA/HAZOP.
  • Leads or assists in the leadership of the Management of Change process for the project.
  • Maintains company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Works with Subject Matter Experts to ensure design meets safety and environmental standards and business needs.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations
