Position Title: Sports Coordinator

Position Type: Part Time Hourly

Schedule: Weekday afternoons/early evenings and weekends a must;

20-25 hours per week

Pay Rate: $20-$23


POSITION SUMMARY
:

This position develops, organizes, and implements the following YMCA programs: youth, teen and adult sports, preschool enrichment classes. Classes are on weekday afternoons and weekend mornings. Candidates must possess excellent child/parent communication skills, expertise in a variety of sports and the ability to work independently. This position reports to the Associate Executive Director/Executive Director.


Essential Functions:

  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Partners with the TA team in recruiting, hiring, training, developing, scheduling and directing employees and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Works with AED and Executive Director to ensure proper maintenance of gymnasium, and all related equipment.
  • Ensures the development of a sports program schedule seasonally with seasonal sports calendar reflecting age-appropriate activities & leagues for children.
  • Markets and distributes program information to YMCA members and the community.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements innovative programming for ages beginning at 2 to adult.
  • To be seen as a leader for our Y by engaging with families, children and other Y employees. Direct service with delivery of classes is an essential function.
  • Monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives and works with AED and Executive Director to meet all goals.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and requests in a timely manner.
  • Assists with any essential branch or program meetings where appropriate.
  • Compiles program statistics (enrollment, staffing, etc). Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Assumes a fair share of responsibilities of the administration of the branch, including nights and weekends. Weekend involvement and supervision is a must.

:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent; working towards obtaining degree in recreation or health related field.
  • One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a sports coach or volunteer.
  • Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, commercial driver’s license.


SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES/KNOW HOW
:

  • Excellent public relations and conflict resolution skills in order to facilitate positive relationships with parents, staff, children, and outside agencies.
  • Have a concern for detail and accuracy and have the ability to delegate responsibility.
