Job Summary
The Spider Assistant’s (SA) primary role is to support the spider excavator, operator, and day-to-day operations. The spider assistant and spider operator (SO) work as a team to accomplish some of the most challenging jobs the construction industry offers.
The SA will focus on supplying the machine with fuel, pulling out the winch cable, clearing access through trees/bushes, and acting as a spotter for the SO. This job is labor-intensive, demanding the utmost attentiveness in safety, a strong drive for success, and the willingness to operate in a team setting. The goal of all the Dyer All Terrain Excavation employees should be to go home safe at the end of every day, provide the best quality product to our clients, and enjoy their job.
List of Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the highest level of safety on the job site including but not limited to wearing required PPE at all times even when working alone
- Support spider excavator in all operations
- Act as a spotter for spider operator
- Be vigilant for safety concerns while the spider excavator is in operation
- Be respectful, and represent Dyer Corp in a professional manner
- As this is an ON-CALL position, must be available at all times for emergency response work (emergency response situations are rare but do happen)
Minimum Job Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Physically fit and able to hike long distances carrying 50 lbs
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle report
- Able to pass a background check and drug test
- Must be willing to travel (typically three weeks on, one week off)
- Must be able to comprehend written and oral instruction
- Able to keep an inventory of job site tools and truck tools
- Anticipates material deliveries, orders, and job site needs, and passes this information to spider operator
- Needs to have a good sense of direction and basic outdoors skills
- Needs to be able to assess job site risks and dangers immediately
- Possesses a willingness to learn and be teachable
Additional Beneficial Skills
- Experience running chainsaws
- SPRAT or IRATA certifications
- Equipment operating experience
- Grade setting experience
- Mechanic experience
- Drilling experience
