JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, provides professional speech, language and hearing services to students in assigned Tribal program(s).
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Screens, evaluates, diagnoses and treats communication-based disorders and/or delays in young children uses various methodologies including individual, small group, and speech and language curriculum.
  • Uses appropriate treatment methods for receptive and expressive language disabilities, aural habilitation/rehabilitation, articulation and voice disorders, stuttering and development of alternative means of communication (e.g. sign language, etc.)
  • Conducts and/or coordinates speech, language and audio logy screenings.
  • Makes medical, audiological or other referrals as appropriate; maintains records of communication evaluations, medical history, treatment, training and follow-up care.
  • Conducts training for lay and professional staff concerning speech, language and hearing disabilities; participates in planning orientation and training of personnel.
  • Assists in budget preparation for speech, language and hearing identification treatment program.
  • Prepares evaluations, various reports, goals and objectives, documentation and correspondence as required.
  • Schedules and participates in MDT, IFSP and/or IEP meetings.
  • Participates in various program and Tribal meetings; meets with specialists, representatives of other divisions, governmental agencies, other organizations and agencies.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION:
A Master’s Degree in speech/language pathology; Washington State Certification in Speech Pathology; and one (1) year of related experience in a clinical setting is required.

  • principles and techniques of communication disorders.
  • identification and treatment.
  • principles and techniques of aural habilitation/rehabilitation.
  • educational and psychological needs of persons with communications disorders.
  • theories of learning, diagnostic and treatment techniques of otolaryngologists, orthodontists and posthodontists.
  • community resources in speech and hearing rehabilitation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Frequently required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. Frequently required to use hands and arms to reach.
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Continuous use of Vision.
Licenses or Certifications Required: WA State Certification in Speech Pathology
