Orbital Sidekick (OSK) has a mission to leverage the untapped power of hyperspectral imagery (HSI) to address global environmental, health, and safety needs while helping companies reach their sustainability goals. Orbital Sidekick is establishing a space-based infrastructure of HSI sensors and analytic capabilities to enable real-time monitoring, detection, and risk management.
As a Space Operations Engineer in our Payload Engineering Team, you will be working on creating the services to control our Satellites. Reporting directly to our VP, Payload Engineering and working closely with our Analytics, Software and Product Teams, you will help build out the tools, processes and products critical to our customer’s success.
What you'll do
- Model tasking scenarios for a constellation of hyperspectral satellites
- Perform trade studies on orbit positioning and maneuvers to maximize satellite coverage
- Interface with the operations and software team to successfully execute targeted tasking with multiple space-based sensors
- Write and maintain a modeling and simulation codebase that is used by multiple teams
- Work with the OSK product team to deliver a high fidelity constellation tasking tool from simulation to execution
- Verify and Validate tasking plans and spacecraft health and status
- Troubleshoot and resolve payload on-orbit anomalies and findings
What you’ll have
- BS in Aerospace/Mechanical/Astronautical engineering
- 5+ years of experience in the Aerospace/Space industry
- Knowledge of orbital mechanics and pointing/control algorithms for spacecraft
- Proficiency in STK (Satellite Toolkit) to visualize and model constellation coverage and revisit
- Proficiency in MATLAB for code maintenance and execution
- Spacecraft operations experience, downloading and uploading spacecraft control parameters
- Ability to code in python for scalable services
- Experience using software APIs to receive and send spacecraft telemetry data
- Strong communication skills with other disciplines and engineers
What you'll need to succeed
- MS in Aerospace/Astronautical Engineering
- Familiarity with scalable software solutions
- Health and Status monitoring of software systems
- Firm understanding of optics, optical alignment, and optical distortion removal
- Experience with remote sensing data
- Expertise in python and C++ software development
Compensation
- The US base salary range for this position is $90,000 - $150,000.
