The
Sous Chef/Food Services Assistant/ is responsible for assisting the Chef and Food & Nutritional Services Manager in the preparation and delivery of daily meals at the Boston Living Center, a community resources/drop in center. The Food Services Assistant/Sous Chef/Food Services Assistant assists in all work done within the kitchen making sure that all services and equipment runs smoothly. The Food Services Assistant/Sous Chef reports to the Food and Nutritional Services Manager for supervision and assigned tasks.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Act in accordance with Victory Programs’ Standards of Excellence at all times, including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality.
- In collaboration with Manger of Food and Nutritional Service and Chef is responsible for the preparation and completion of the daily meal service and ensures the appropriate items prepped for the next meal.
- In absence of Chef is responsible for the preparation and completion of the daily meal service and has capacity to complete the meal preparation independently.
- Assist the Food and Nutritional Services Manager with monitoring of recipe items needed for the daily menus for the weekly food ordering
- Serve daily meals at the BLC.
- Receives daily food deliveries and ensures proper rotation and storage of product.
- Collaborate with the Nutritionist on cooking classes when requested.
- Ensure kitchen clean and organized.
- Reports all repair needs or equipment replacement needs to the Food and Nutritional Services Manager in a timely manner.
- Understands and maintains health department sanitary standards.
- Assists in directing/orienting the daily volunteers as requested.
- Maintains pot sink log.
- Maintains menu log.
- Prepares daily Prep Sheets for upcoming meals
- Provide staffing for evening dinners as assigned.
- Attend weekly supervision with the Food and Nutritional Services Manager.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of Food service experience in a commercial kitchen required.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds
- Ability to handle many projects, tasks and activities at the same time in a fast paced environment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully in multi-cultural settings with diverse client and volunteer population.
- Current TB assessment and current CPR certification.
- Must maintain valid ServSafe certification

Hours: Full time position (40 hours/week) Monday- Friday, some evenings & weekend required
