The purpose of the Adult Protective Services (APS) Social Worker position is to follow up with and protect the elderly as well as adults with disabilities who are at-risk for adult maltreatment: abuse, neglect or exploitation. This position will provide person-centered services within a trauma-informed system to assure safety, protection, and well-being for adults who are at risk of or have been subjected to adult maltreatment. Responsibilities include: assessing individuals safety; determining appropriate interventions to control for safety threats; developing service plans for individuals to build protective capacities and autonomy and independence; implementing emergency petitions for guardianship, follow up service plans for at-risk adult regarding adult maltreatment, identifying and making referrals for services for at-risk adults in their community that ensure stability and meet requirements of established laws; and tracking progress of programs, assuring positive outcomes with regards to the adult’s well-being, including physical and mental health concerns.


This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures for Adult Protective Services.
  • Knowledge of the laws and rules pertaining to Adult Protective Services such as emergency protective order, guardianship/conservatorship process.
