Candidates should be able to identify and report on queries that the audience is actively seeking on a regular basis. This candidate must love using Google Trends and social media to identify appropriate keywords and optimization strategies for each file to ensure it has lasting impact in on mobile and digital platforms.
Candidates should have strong digital and analytics skills and understand when and how to optimize content effectively to regain traction in organic search results. They will understand what types of everyday content resonates with USA TODAY’s audience and be adept at identifying those opportunities.
This candidate must also be willing to explore new areas of expertise and help on stories or topics they might not have covered before.
These reporters should understand SEO tools to identify areas of opportunity for USA TODAY and be able to help create and execute a related evergreen content plan.
Possibility of remote location in all states except Alaska or Hawaii or in offices in either NYC, McLean, Va., or Los Angeles

- Spotting and writing high-interest search items.
- Optimizing your content, paying special attention to headlines, SEO and fields visible to social audience.
- Willingness to work a wide range of hours and across many topic areas.
- Monitor SERP daily and respond to audience interest in queries/topics.
- Proficiently use SEO tools to track keywords over time and execute strategies pointed toward those insights.
- Collaborate with newsroom editors on topic opportunities and ever-changing best practices.
- Bachelor's or master’s degree in journalism or any other subject or an equivalent combination of education and experience..
