DEPARTMENT : Equal Rights Commission
HOURS OF WORK : Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 632 West 6th Avenue
Independently and impartially investigate moderately complex allegations of discrimination under Title 5 of the Anchorage Municipal Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Conducts interviews, analyzes evidence, writes narrative reports including findings of investigation and case closure, conducts fact finding and conciliation conferences. Advancement requires working on projects, such as developing materials for agency outreach or assisting management in writing grants. Participates and assists in training with other investigators. Scheduled work assignments for other investigators, such as the inquiry rotation schedule. Highest range advancement requires gathering and analyzing statistical data on case processing statistics; preforming other tasks to assist management including preparing graphic reports and written documents detailing statistical data, gathering statistical information, creating charts, schedules, graphs, maps and preparing other visual aids. Monitors work, Schedules and reviews work assignments for other investigators. Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
OR
Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline and five (5) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and three (3) years of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
OR
Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Pre-Law, Criminal Justice or closely related discipline, and one (1) year of professional investigative experience in management, human resources, law, legal advocacy, and/or closely related field.
Must possess a valid State of Alaska driver's license at time of hire.

- knowledge of Title 5 of the Anchorage Municipal Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a copy of the applicant's Alaska driver's license and a current copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaskan driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
