Senior Electrical Engineer - Power & Drive Systems (+3 years)

Coalmont has a need for a motivated Senior Level Electrical Engineer at our McCalla, Alabama facility.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for executing custom projects at a high level by directly contributing to project design and commissioning, while leading and tasking junior Engineers to various project tasks that lead to efficient project completion, and general team growth. The Senior Electrical Engineer will be a key member of an Engineering team with the responsibilities of designing, installing, and commissioning various industrial electrical systems. Systems to include power distribution relaying and study analysis, custom electrical equipment design & commissioning, complex drive and power conversion applications, and project management for heavy industry projects. The position requires hands-on shop and field support to work both independently and within a team to lead and mentor various Coalmont Engineers and technicians to successfully complete projects based on sound engineering practices, customer specifications and expectations. This position is an opportunity to be exposed to an extremely diverse set of applications, technologies, and processes, with the expectation to grow into a leadership and mentoring position with increased responsibilities and support.

PREFERRED DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Low and Medium Voltage Power Systems:

Can demonstrate an understanding of 3-phase power systems, transformers, protection and NEC/NFPA code principles.

  • AC and/or DC Drives and Motors:

Experience with the installation, tuning, commissioning, and troubleshooting of various drive systems. Can demonstrate an understanding of drive design, control algorithms and regulators.

  • Project Management & Leadership Skills

An ability to communicate clearly and demonstrates an ability to provide instruction to peers and subordinates.

  • Installation & Commissioning Experience

An understanding of various installation processes that relate to industrial electrical construction. Experience with system and equipment checkout procedures and the motivation to provide consistent results that are free from errors and are installed as a durable product.

  • Knowledge of various schematic, modeling and controls programming software:

CAD: AutoCAD Electrical

Power Modeling: ETAP, EZPower

  • Knowledge of relevant safety and design standards:

NFPA, UL and others

  • Industrial machinery and automation process experience:

Experience with the design, troubleshooting, and respective code requirements of various industrial control and safety systems.

  • Electrical control panel design and layout:

Understanding of proper control panel design, product selection, SCCR calculations, testing and installation practices.

  • Communication protocols and instrumentation networks:

Understanding of various industrial Ethernet/IP and Profinet network designs and respective product selection.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

  • Self-Starter with attention to detail and a strong motivation to complete projects on schedule.
  • Proven leadership abilities and is willing to contribute as needed to the benefit of the team.
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Solid fundamental Electrical Engineering knowledge.
  • +3 years relevant experience.
  • Creative problem solver with a customer-based perspective.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and verbal skills.

Because of this, Coalmont focuses on delivering exceptional engineering to repeat customers within a few hours driving time. Travel at Coalmont is currently defined as not spending the day at the McCalla office with customer locations most commonly within 0-4 hours from the Birmingham, AL area.

The McCalla, AL facility is conveniently located just outside of Birmingham with a typical short, low traffic commute down either I-20/59 or I-459.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
