Title: Senior Director of Development
Reports To: Executive Director
La Casa Nortes mission is to serve youth and families confronting homelessness. We provide access to stable housing and deliver comprehensive services that act as a catalyst to transform lives and communities.
The Senior Director of Development is a key member of La Casa Nortes executive leadership team and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the organizations strategic fundraising plan to support mission sustainability. The Senior Director of Development spearheads donor and funder relationship management; the organizations communication strategy; and all fundraising activities. The Senior Director of Developments main objective is to raise revenue, enhance the organizations visibility in the community while minimizing costs and reputational risks.
Principal job responsibilities:
STRATEGY AND PLANNING
- Create a development strategic plan to create long-term organizational sustainability and promotes a culture of philanthropy at all levels of the organization.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive data-driven annual fundraising plan, which includes annual fundraising goals and targets for donor cultivation activities, special events, fundraising drives, capital campaigns and other development activities.
- Plan and support the development efforts of key primary relationship managers assigned to major donors in the LCN development portfolio, including the Executive Director, other members of the leadership team, and board members.
- Consistently monitor and evaluate all development activities to ensure that development goals are achieved and course-correct when activities are hindering progress.
- Monitor national and local trends and adapt fundraising strategies, as necessary.
INDIVIDUAL AND MAJOR GIFTS/ANNUAL FUND
- Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
- Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
- Develop an annual online, individual, and crowdfunding fundraising plan that leverages best in class fundraising strategies to deliver results.
- Ensure the development team is actively managing donor profiles in the CRM database.
- Develop and grow La Casa Nortes social media fundraising, peer-to-peer, and crowdfunding campaigns.
- Oversees annual appeal letter, donor acknowledgment letters, and annual report development and distribution.
- Plan and activate giving-day strategies (Giving Tuesday, End of Year Giving, etc.) that engage LCNs staff, board and other mission supporters. Track, analyze, and report results and outcomes.
- Working with their team and program staff, manage La Casa Nortes in-kind giving and volunteer programs.
INSTITUTIONAL FUNDRAISING/GRANTS MANAGEMENT
- Oversee the grant writing team to ensure continuous prospect research is being conducted, proposal writing, and deadlines are met, and reporting requirements are followed.
- In collaboration with the grant writing team, executive director, and executive leadership team, will develop goals and priorities for grant funding to meet existing and emerging programmatic funding needs.
- Conduct regular (monthly/quarterly) projections to assist with budget forecasting.
- Ensure donor and prospect data is properly recorded in the database and that all donor information is maintained with respect to confidentiality. Provide timely and accurate reports to senior leadership on all fundraising activities.
CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT AND SPECIAL EVENTS
- Develop and implement corporate fundraising strategies, including soliciting sponsorships and grants, managing partnerships, and tapping into employer gift-matching programs.
- Lead their team to ensure the successful development and execution of fundraising events, including seeking & securing sponsorships, event theme building, creating event programs, communicating with event attendees & corporate donors, marketing, contracting vendors, coordinating event logistics, timelines, and other tasks necessary for event production.
MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS
- In collaboration with the communications team, will create a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of La Casa Nortes mission.
- Oversee the creation of publications, press releases, web, and digital content to support fundraising activities and mission objectives.
- Design, print, and distribute marketing and communication materials for development efforts.
MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
- Collaborates with the Executive Director, Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors to further the mission of La Casa Norte.

- Promotes an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all La Casa Norte employees are responsible for contributing to the overall success of La Casa Norte by:
- Attending all staff meetings
- Participating in on- and off-site staff trainings, workshops and outreach events as needed
- Participating in La Casa Nortes fundraising events
- Performing other duties as needed
Education Requirements:
Bachelors degree required, advanced degree preferred in the areas of communications, and marketing related field (e.g., marketing, business administration, public relations, advertising, communications, journalism).- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office required (Word, Excel, Access, Power-Point, Outlook), and Adobe Design Suite experience preferred.
- Experience working with Blackbaud Raisers Edge NXT, One Cause, and/or other fundraising management software and database management systems to track donor history, interests, and activity - and an interest in collecting and using data and research in developing and setting development program priorities.
Skills and Qualifications:
Minimum of Five (5) years experience in non-profit fundraising and a proven track record of soliciting, closing, and stewarding major gifts.- Broad understanding of multi-faceted fundraising campaign planning, implementation, management and what it means to build a culture of philanthropy.
- In-depth knowledge and experience in all aspects of development and fundraising particularly major gift fundraising.
- Ability to build teams, establish new processes and willingness to create a structure for sustainable growth.
- Strong marketing and communication experience, with demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in successful development and execution of marketing campaigns, communications, and public relations activities.
- Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal skills, with the experience of managing multiple projects at a time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to capture and communicate compellingly stories of LCNs work.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team. Must be flexible, have initiative, and operate at a high level of productivity. Ability to meet deadlines a must.
- Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic teams.
