We are currently seeking an experienced:
SENIOR DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
Full Time, Days
JOB SUMMARY:
- Provides ongoing maintenance for database management systems, related applications, and data files. Primarily MSSQL, but MySQL, and other DBMS skills will be required.
- Provides customer service by communicating with departments, identifying user needs, and requests, researching trends, software, evaluating environments, implementing and or monitoring database systems, and providing related information to users.
- Assess user’s information requirements by interviewing affected agency personnel. Determines what information is needed and defines how to present it effectively.
- Designs major database system components such as databases, tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, SQL jobs, linked servers, SSRS reports, etc.
- Reviews T-SQL code prior to introduction to production environments. Participates in usage and improvement of version control efforts surrounding T-SQL code, database as code, and associated pipelines.
- Proactively monitors disk, VM, and Azure components related to SQL server instances.
- Establishes, improves on, and actively monitors all aspects of database security best practice.
- Oversee data security through management of access and security. Routinely scan for unintended security changes and vulnerabilities, review and recommend changes as necessary. Apply security updates and service packs in a timely manner, make best efforts to ensure performance, reliability and integrity are not compromised as a result.
- Ability to identify database-related tasks which require automation and automate them.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Serves as a consultant to department heads and staff by assessing needs and recommending appropriate database-related hardware and software.
- Reviews technical journals and relevant literature to stay current with the changes in technology. Provides guidance in areas of technical expertise such as database management, high level languages, database system software, or data communications.
- Mentoring junior database administrators regarding technical skill development.
- Acts as a primary database administrator on all critical business functions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and 4 years of related database administration experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Successful candidate will have 1-2+ years’ experience working with SQL Server in a major organization and experience managing 24/7 environments and demonstrate not only a high degree of technical knowledge and real-world experience but also demonstrate their ability to impact the speed, reliability and time to market of new projects.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment
- Knowledge of:
- Current theories principles, and technologies of data storage and information processing.
- Advanced knowledge of MSSQL, MySQL, SSMS, SSRS, and SSIS, and other database-related technologies.
- Database methods, techniques, and data structures.
- Proper database planning, installation, and patching, per CIS benchmark standards.
- Security related concerns surrounding production database system administration.
- Authentication and authorization as relates to new and existing database systems.
- Best practice for data backup, audit logging, and proactive monitoring & optimization of DBMS resources.
- Azure data factories, pipelines, and data analytics features such as Synapse, Databricks, etc.
- Design, implementation, and monitoring of existing and new SQL jobs.
- Debugging complex database issues and errors in a production environment.
- Customer service techniques.
- Skill in:
- Analyzing end-user database system and program needs.
- Operating independently across various MIS functional groups to meet mission-critical database administration objectives.
- Managing large data processing systems.
- Designing, monitoring, and maintaining database systems, processes, and associated applications.
- Mentoring database administrator(s) in designing databases and associated jobs & reports.
- Configuring database systems and software.
- Assisting in preparation of long-range data management strategies.
- Task organization and prioritization.
- Researching computer topics via the Internet and other on-line sources.
- Preparing and conducting training sessions.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
