Job Description
A. Supervises junior building custodians.
B. Assumes responsibility for the cleaning and care of the building and surrounding grounds using appropriate hand tools and/or automatic cleaning equipment.
C. Participates in all work such as daily cleaning of floors, walls, windows, toilets, furniture, cleaning and shampooing of carpets, stripping, waxing, and buffing of floors and any other custodial work and has responsibility charge of a school building.
D. Performs heavy manual labor including climbing ladders, emptying trash, shoveling snow, sanding, up-keep of outside grounds, lifting and moving furniture, supplies, equipment, etc.
E. Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and operation of
schools heating system, air conditioning system, fuel oil, direct hot air, or steam heating systems.
F. Will be available for overtime, emergency call backs or necessary building inspections.
G. Can create, conduct and maintain records for on-going programs of general maintenance, scheduled cleaning, other upkeep and repair of building and grounds.
H. Makes periodical inspections to ascertain that current routines
of operation and upkeep are properly followed.
I. If school is equipped with a pool must be willing and able to maintain it and obtain all certifications associated with it.
J. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors, panic bars and life safety devices are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
K. Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand.
L. Receive school supplies and equipment and maintains all necessary inventories in such a time as will not hinder the custodian in his/her duties.
M. Responsible for submitting requisitions for supplies and maintenance work and submitting reports once the work has been completed.
N. Recommends improvements and performs related work as
directed.
O. Displays the American Flag according to custom.
P. Performs any and all other duties as needed or assigned to properly maintain the school.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Demonstrated ability to maintain an effective working relationship with the Principal, school staff, City departments, public, contractors, and other building users.
2. Strong organizational skills and interpersonal relations skills.
3. Able to use a computer.
4. Demonstrates effective and reliable work habits.
5. If the school is equipped with a pool the candidate must have or be able to obtain all Aquatics Facility Operator Certification.
6. Shows willingness to learn new skills.
7. Possess a valid Driver’s License and working vehicle.
8. Currently working as a Springfield School Custodian.
