Position Summary:
Our client is an established database services provider and Oracle Platinum Partner.
The company is growing at a fast pace and has a global presence with offices in the US, UK and India.
We are looking to grow our established expert DBA team, with a strong database professional who has extensive consulting and production support experience. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, has a disciplined approach to their work and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and an understanding of complex project delivery and support operations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • The candidate will be a member of a global consulting team, playing a senior role in enterprise database architecture projects, including Oracle database builds, upgrades, migrations, support, performance tuning and assistance with design.
  • The position involves a mixture of project delivery and support activities. The individual filling this position is expected to provide support incident ownership, resolution of database related issues, maintenance activities, patching, tuning etc.
  • The candidate should be highly experienced with Oracle Database 12c+, RAC and Data Guard.
  • The individual is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills and to carry out customer facing activities.
  • The candidate must be able to deliver within agreed timelines and budgets, managing and completing projects and support activities within customer expectations SLAs, while proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.
  • The individual will be responsible for initiating and performing changes on enterprise production systems.
  • Hands-on experience working on AWS and Other (OCI/Azure/GCP) Public cloud technologies.
  • The delivery of enterprise database architecture projects such as database infrastructure design, builds, upgrades, migrations, support, and performance tuning.
  • The individual filling this position is expected to provide production support ownership, tracking, and resolving database related tasks.
  • Strong Performance tuning and optimization skills, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools for RDBMS Design and implement processes for database backups, restores and recovery models Design and implement database security solutions.
  • Analyze on-premises database environments such as Oracle, SQL Server, or other Commercial DB Engines to Open Source Engines like Aurora PostgreSQL/MySQL or RedShift, DynamoDB.
  • Work with customers to migrate their database environments to AWS. This may include, but is not limited to Re-Host database platform on AWS, Upgrade/Optimize for AWS, Re-Factor to open source database platform on AWS.
  • Oracle Database 19c,12c, RAC, Data Guard, cross platform migrations and deploy/manage databases in AWS RDS/EC2.
  • The position involves a mix of production support and project delivery activities.
  • Design and implement Oracle’s High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for Oracle database including, RAC and Data Guard Design and implement data replication strategies using replication technologies such as Active Data Guard.
  • Perform regular DBA activities including install, upgrade, performance tuning.
  • Database security options Database architecture design, including optimal server and storage design.
  • Design and implement automation solutions for routine tasks, system reporting, alerts, and notifications using standard tools and custom scripts (Shell/perl/Ansible).
  • Extensive hands-on experience implementing database migration using AWS services: VPC/SG, EC2, S3, Autoscaling, CloudFormation, Snowflake, RDS, Aurora, AWS DMS, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, Docker, Lambda etc.
Necessary Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
  • 10+ years of Core Oracle DBA experience with at least 5 years of experience in managing databases on AWS (EC2 or RDS).
  • Previous consulting experience is essential.
  • BS degree in Computing or other related field, or equivalent experience.
Advantageous Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Oracle Engineered Systems administration, including Exadata, Oracle Database.
  • Appliance (ODA), ZFS Storage Appliance.
  • Knowledge of cross platform replication, e.g. GoldenGate.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms, including OCI, AWS Azure and GCP.
  • Knowledge of other databases, including MS SQL, Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of automation, including use of Shell/Perl/Ansible Python.
  • Award of Oracle, AWS certifications.
