What does a Senior Auditor do?
A Senior Auditor at Canandaigua National Bank (CNB) is responsible for evaluating operational procedures, risk management, control functions and governance processes across the bank. The Audit function acts independently and reports to the Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, the governing body responsible for oversight of Internal Audit.
A Senior Auditor is responsible for compiling and presenting audit reports and findings to key personnel within the organization. As a subject matter expert, this position makes recommendations to management to improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. Internal Auditors at CNB provide risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight while adding value to CNB’s operations. What is needed to be successful in this role?
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or an Audit Certification (e.g. CPA, CFSA, CBA, CIA).
- A minimum of five (5) years’ audit experience in banking/financial services
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Auditor Certification) designation strongly preferred (or in progress).
- Possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- Comprehension of internal auditing standards, generally accepted accounting principles, FDICIA, COSO, and risk assessment practices
- A thorough knowledge of all bank regulatory requirements
What does a successful first year in this position look like?
- Performs various duties relating to the audit function of the bank of which the following are illustrative:
- Maintains a current knowledge of applicable regulations and laws.
May assist in the preparation of the annual audit schedule and plan. - Updates audit scopes (e.g., reviews previous work papers and reports and the current procedures and policies of the area to be audited, updates procedures, prepare internal control questionnaire, etc.)
- Delegates sections of procedures to staff, directs audit staff during field work, resolves problems, reviews completed field work for accuracy and completion.
- Analyzes audit findings, determines exceptions, and discusses findings with appropriate personnel.
- Prepares audit report, which includes procedures or policies in violation and recommendations for corrective action, and presents reports to the Audit Manager for approval.
May participate in investigation activities as necessary. - Assists with training/coaching of audit staff.
2. Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the department as well as other departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
