Flagship Pioneering is seeking an experienced and talented accounting professional to join a first-in-category organization. The Senior Accountant will be an instrumental player in the month end close for Flagship's entities, will be responsible developing and implementing new accounting policies and procedures to scale within the organization, provide business insights to our leaders to measure progress on company performance, and assist with enhancing companywide financial reports, including enhanced analytics, cash flow management and consolidated reporting

Job Functions/Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day accounting activities including expense reports and bills review and cash and credit card reconciliations for multiple portfolio companies.
• Perform month-end/quarter-end/year-end close activities including preparation of journal entries and reconciliation of various balance sheet and P&L accounts for multiple portfolio companies.
• Manage fixed assets, including ensuring that capitalization/depreciation policies are followed and tracking of delivery and in-service dates.
• Manage Operating and Finance leases ensuring they are accounted for in accordance with ASC 842.
• Review of P&L accounts, departments, and projects to resolve classification issues.
• Update the forecast files for multiple portfolio companies with actuals after the close.
• Ensure that month-end close workbooks, supporting schedules and analysis for multiple portfolio companies are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with the monthly closing schedule.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly flux analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Assist Assistant Controller with annual reports and tax fillings.
• Assist Assistant Controller with annual audits and equity administration as needed.
• Support Assistant Controller with special projects as they arise.

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA and 2-3 years of Big Four public accounting experience is preferred.
• 1-2 years of biotechnology or life science industry experience preferred.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and the ability to do research to find solutions for accounting issues.
• Experience with NetSuite highly preferred; experience with Prendio, Carta, LeaseQuery and Expensify a plus.
