Associated Recreation Council is hiring a School-age Childcare Director at Lafayette Elementary School. The School-Age Childcare (SAC) Director is responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing all program offerings. The director is responsible for creating and supporting a fun, safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for staff and participants. The director establishes and strengthens positive relationships and is the main point of contact for Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) staff, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff, parents, and participants. PAY RATE: $26.87/hr, full-time benefited position
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
LEADERSHIP
- Mentor, train, and coach staff in the development and implementation of program
- Collaborate with other directors within the organization to share resources and ideas
- Manage program operations by communicating effectively with staff and holding them accountable to job-related responsibilities
- Use critical thinking to problem-solve, trouble shoot and plan to minimize risk
- Demonstrate and model desirable leadership qualities to reporting staff
- Develop and oversee the implementation of high quality program offerings
- Engage staff and participants in utilizing their voice to influence program offerings
- Oversee and/or lead opening and closing procedures daily
- Address behavior via positive reinforcement
- Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
- Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants
- Communicate with SAC team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Create program and snack plans
- Conduct regular assessments, observations, and audits of programs, participants, and staff paperwork to be in compliance with Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) licensing and School-Age Program Quality Assessment (SAPQA) requirements
- Frequently review and maintain staff and child files per DCYF requirements
- Create staff schedules
- Complete budget planning with area operations supervisor
- Plan and lead staff trainings and meetings
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
- Conduct regular one-on-ones with assistant directors, leads, and counselors
- Communicate and collaborate often and effectively with our partners (SPR, SPS, licensors, all ARC departments and other organizations)
- Conduct interviews
- Partner with HR recruiting team to meet staffing needs
- Responsible for maintaining workplace expectations and documentation (staff recognition, performance improvement needs/concerns)
SAFETY
- Draft and finalize safety procedures
- Schedule regular safety drills and disseminate corresponding responsibilities to reporting staff
- Lead day-to-day program implementation
- Initiate the Incident Response Plan
- Utilize proper and timely reporting procedures, including CPS reporting, licensor and/or Public Health notification, and area operations supervisor notification
CARE & CUSTODY
- Cultivate a safe and welcoming environment for all families, participants and staff
- Conduct regular head counts and roll calls
- Ensure environments are well-maintained, developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of the program and its participants
- Provide positive transitions that maintain ratios/head counts to minimize the risk of unwanted behaviors
- Supports other organization sites and programs as needed

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE
- Has 45 college credits in 100-level or above college coursework as approved and verified in DCYF MERIT system and as specified in the Washington state guidelines 110-301-0100.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children.
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
- Documentation of current First-Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, MMR vaccination record, have cleared a TB test; 30 hours STARS training or documentation of exemption is highly preferred
- Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid Washington State Driver’s license or Washington State ID Required
SUPERVISION
Supervises all program staff. This includes identifying staffing needs, hiring, developing and coaching staff to ensure work is delivered effectively.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a community center environment or may be at various sites. This role may routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners and photocopiers.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends, year-round position.
TRAVEL
Travel to designated sites as needed.
