, one of Montana's AAA Four Diamond resorts, is seeking a Director of Sales to work with our Sales Team.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND POSITION PURPOSE:

Support Averill Hospitality Whitefish properties by managing, coordinating, and executing items related to day-to-day sales operations and strategic planning. Provide oversight and leadership to sales and reservations team members. Manage sales territory as assigned.

A key role for every Averill Hospitality Team Member is to serve as an ambassador of the company and its properties, positively engaging owners, guests, and the community at every opportunity.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage team building and recognition, troubleshooting, training, mentoring, and related tasks to develop a strong sales tea

Create and follow annual sales plan for territory managed and assist sales managers in developing their annual plans, adapting and modifying them as needed. Develop target lists and action plans for customer acquisition and client account management and oversee the implementation of these plans.

Communicate with other departments to facilitate services agreed upon with clients and act as a resource for information and assistance to other departments within the company.

Lead the evaluation, selection, and onboarding of new team members in the department.

Provide revenue projections for group sales and participate in the annual budget process.

Provide direct leadership and support to sales team members.

  • Meet individually with each Sales Manager every other week to review sales activities and opportunities, develop and monitor the success of strategies and tactics, and assist with goal fulfillment as needed
  • Utilize reports from Salesforce and RDP to assist sales managers in gauging performance and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Organize and lead a group sales meeting every other week.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on requested contract language and SOP exceptions to be approved by the DOSM and/or property’s GM.

Achieve sales goals as established by Director of Sales & Marketing and General Managers

  • Prospect, cultivate leads and contract business to achieve sales goals as established by the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Lead site inspections and entertain qualified potential clients.
  • Perform local sales calls, client outreach, and telephone sales to potential new and existing clients regularly, travel to key and emerging markets for sales calls to promote Averill Hospitality properties on an occasional basis (1-3 times/year).
  • Participate in networking organizations and activities to grow leads.
  • Document sales efforts and maintenance of client accounts in Salesforce.
  • Evaluate business opportunities to determine if favorable and profitable to the company.

Fill in for Sales and Reservations staff and the Director of Sales & Marketing as needed.

Work with the individual property General Managers to ensure group sales efforts are aligned with overall property goals and modify as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

  • Excellent verbal communication skills both in-person and on the telephone, and excellent written communication skills with attention to proper spelling, grammar, and usage
  • Experience and proven ability to drive the sales process from start to finish and to cultivate these skills in others.
  • Strong listening, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Understanding of how to position products against competitors, and knowledge of how to develop client-focused, differentiated, and achievable solutions.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge with the capacity to learn new programs and technologies.
  • Proven ability to mentor others, train on processes, and create a culture of accountability.
  • Must possess a high regard for customer service and employee relations and the ability to deal with the public and staff tactfully and diplomatically
  • Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and create strategic plans based on findings.
  • A broad understanding of the tourism industry and the day-to-day operations of a hotel/resort
  • Possess an attitude that encourages an open, stimulating, and trusting environment that reflects our Company Mission and Core Personality Traits.
  • Understanding of key drivers of tourism to Whitefish.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of classified information.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

EDUCATION

Preference for a 4-year degree in hospitality, business management, communications, or related field

EXPERIENCE/ LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

Minimum 3 years’ experience in resort or hotel sales where there was significant time spent establishing rapport with leads, overcoming sales objections, and closing sales

A valid driver’s license

SCHEDULE / HOLIDAYS/ PTO:

The Director of Sales is expected to keep a 5-day-a-week schedule, adjusted as needed according to business demands, and be available in the event of an emergency. A requirement of 45 hours per week is expected, however, it can be more or less depending on the business needs. Working weekends and holidays may be required.

The Director of Sales will typically be available during peak seasons, typically taking PTO and vacations during slower seasons. Generally, PTO will not be approved during June 15 - September 15 and December 15 – January 5.

The hospitality business functions seven (7) days a week, twenty-four hours a day. In addition, this is a hospitality business, and a hospitable service atmosphere must be projected at all times.
