Rural Dynamics - Southwest Habitat 4 Humanity Job at AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps Montana

In Butte, the community desperately needs housing people can afford. In the past decade, the area median home price has doubled, pushing the majority of housing out of the affordable range. Butte families are now having to make the decision to leave the place that they call home, or pay outrageous housing prices. The housing supply is not keeping up with the rate of demand, further driving prices up. The market sector can not solve this problem on its own, nor can the government sector. Nonprofits will play a critical role in addressing this issue. Habitat for Humanity of Southwest is dedicated to taking on a leading role in the housing crisis by increasing their production incrementally to provide more affordable housing options each year. This work is not easy, but it is desperately needed. In order to do this, Habitat has been researching innovative ways to build more homes, at a faster rate. With the help of our Innovation Team, Land Acquisition & Development Team, and Philanthropy Team we will continue to innovate and help Butte families achieve their dream of home-ownership. With the help of an AmeriCorps VISTA, we will be able to further expand our organization and find more efficient ways to operate. During the VISTA’s year of service, they will have the opportunity to develop new skills such as grant writing, public speaking, database management, communication, advocacy writing, email etiquette, committee management, and time management. All of these skills will help prepare them for the next chapter of their lives. Best of all, they will get to do all of this in historic Butte and have the opportunity to explore all of the wonders Montana has to offer!

Member Duties : The VISTA member will actively seek to build new donor and sponsor relationships, as well as building capacity. The member will aid in grant writing assistance by helping gather information for grants - including donor data and statistics on previous partner families. The member will also assist in volunteer coordination such as group build days, Women’s Build Week, YouthBuild Week, and other special events.
