The ROI Specialist is responsible for analyzing data associated with the revenue cycle to assist with assessing the timeliness, effectiveness, and accuracy of the revenue cycle. This role collaborates with multiple departments, collecting, analyzing, and providing data throughout the Center in an effort to enhance and improve revenue cycle activities and outcomes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examines requests for HIPAA compliance and valid patient authorization.
- Logs medical record requests into ROI Online database.
- Determines records to be released by reviewing requestor information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines, Minimum Necessary Rule, and obtaining pertinent patient data from various sources, including electronic, off-site, or physical records that match patient request.
- Interacts with Internal Council if subpoena is not compliant.
- Scans medical records into ROI Online database and Soarian EDM.
- When required, responds and processes requests from or by walk-in customers.
- Responds to phone calls from medical staff and Shepherd Center personnel requesting medical records or patient identification.
- Responds and processes requests for continuing care on a priority basis and fax information.
- Prepares Medical Record Certifications.
- Notarizes forms needed for Shepherd Center providers.
- Complies with Shepherd Center policies and procedures.
- Orders offsite records from Iron Mountain.
- Handles and records cash/check/credit card payments for requests.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION
- Graduation from high school with some additional health care vocational or college training.
- CRIS credential
REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION
- AHIOS
- “Certified Release of Information Specialist” (CRIS)
REQUIRED LICENSURE
- N/A
REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
- Must have passed the exam for ROI Specialists and achieved the AHIOS “Certified Release of Information Specialist” (CRIS) credential.
- Will consider High School Graduate with minimum of two years of Medical Record experience in an inpatient health care organization.
- Must pass certification exam within one year of employment. Knowledge, skills, and Abilities

- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information. · Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS
- An advanced computer skill level is required.
- Must have a working knowledge of current Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel and Word.
- Ability to use standard office equipment such as copiers and printers is required.
- Ability to use mail machine is a plus.
- Must be able to navigate various web-based systems with limited direction. Familiarity with mobile device management a plus.
